Personal Profile
Wang Hanqing, male, Han ethnicity, born in April 1972, styled Longfei, pseudonym Yilong Jushi, native of Laiyuan County, Baoding, Hebei. Graduated from Zhuozhou Arts and Crafts School. Wang Hanqing has been fond of calligraphy and painting since childhood, practicing copying ancient scripts and paintings for many years. Later, he attended the Zhuozhou training class of the Art Department of Hebei University. He studied under artists such as Liu Shuheng, Ma Haifang, Fan Yang, and Qi Ren, achieving profound mastery in traditional Chinese freehand brushwork, especially in flowers, birds, and landscapes. He is particularly skilled in painting grapes and lotus flowers. His grape paintings combine meticulous and freehand techniques—bold and vigorous when painting freely, delicate and refined when painting meticulously. Though executed in freehand style, they convey remarkable texture and vividly capture the essence and form of grapes, evoking the viewer’s desire to pluck and taste them. He is thus nicknamed “Grape Hermit.” His lotus paintings feature bold, atmospheric brushwork, simple yet expressive lines, and superb integration of ink, water, and color, creating rich compositions with clear themes and profound artistic connotations that deeply convey the noble spirit of the lotus as a gentlemanly symbol. Director Wang ??? also devotes himself to calligraphy and seal carving. Thereafter, he lived and worked professionally as a painter for several years at the Zhonghua Chinese Painting Society and the Liulichang Ancient Culture Street in Beijing. His works won the Silver Award in the 3rd National Huanghe Soul Calligraphy and Painting Competition in 2015. In 2016, multiple works were published in the book “20 People’s Favorite Calligraphers and Painters” selected nationwide. In 2016, his traditional Chinese flower-and-bird and landscape paintings were issued by China Post as a commemorative collector’s edition stamp set celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. In 2017, his works were issued by the U.S. Philatelic Network as a commemorative stamp set marking the 38th anniversary of U.S.-China diplomatic relations, and as part of the “Outstanding Chinese-American Artists Commemorative Stamp Collector’s Album.” His works have also received attention, promotion, and coverage from media outlets such as Sohu and major provincial and municipal newspapers. Currently, he serves as Assistant Director of the Ministry of Culture’s Cultural and Art Talents Training Center, Deputy Director of the Creation Committee of the National Folk Artists Association’s Ethnic Painting and Calligraphy Creation Center, Assistant Director of the Ministry of Culture’s Veteran Artists Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Teaching Assistant at the School of Continuing Education of Renmin University of China, First-Class Artist certified by the Ministry of Culture, Member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, Academician of the China Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, Contracted Painter of China Calligraphy and Painting Network TV, Artist of China Art Commune, Executive Vice President of Beijing Tianweicheng Painting Academy, President of Laiyuan Painting Academy, Painter for China Education Television’s “Ink and Wash Danqing,” National Gift Artist, and National First-Class Painter.
