Personal Profile
Tan Huimin, male, born in September 1958, Han ethnicity, native of Hebei Leting, holds associate degrees in Chinese Language and Literature and Law. Lawyer and Senior Political Work Engineer.
Tan Huimin has loved classical literature since childhood. During his military service and subsequent civilian career, he long engaged in secretarial and publicity work, possessing profound literary skills and classical Chinese knowledge. He especially enjoys composing poetry and couplets, and developed a strong interest in calligraphy, which is closely related to them. Since 2010, with advancing age and increased leisure time, his passion for calligraphy has become nearly obsessive; he often practices calligraphy for more than ten hours daily, regardless of weather or season, striving with extraordinary effort to seize every moment. Through diligent practice, his calligraphic skill has steadily improved. In his study of calligraphy, he remains passionate yet calm-minded, and has formulated personal guidelines to discipline and remind himself: “Calligraphy is vast and profound; the heavenly principle rewards diligence. Diligently copy steles and models; take dignity and standardization as foundation. Skill naturally emerges through familiarity; do not seek deliberate innovation. Cultivate character and soothe emotions. Avoid being corrupted by utilitarianism; do not seek great achievement, but never forget your original aspiration.”
His calligraphy focuses primarily on regular script and running-cursive script. He takes Ouyang Xun’s regular script as his foundation and follows the “Two Wangs” lineage in running-cursive script, skillfully integrating both styles. In large-character writing, he has developed a distinctive strength: his large horizontal scrolls are balanced, serene, vigorous, and elegant, exuding an air of solemn dignity. Another notable feature is his preference for using self-composed couplets and parallel phrases as content for his calligraphic creations, showcasing his profound cultural foundation and earning widespread admiration. In recent years, at the invitation of people from all walks of society, he has created over five hundred such works, with his social influence steadily expanding. Meanwhile, he actively participates in provincial, municipal, and national calligraphy exhibitions, frequently being selected for display or receiving awards.
Tan Huimin is currently a member of the Qinhuangdao Calligraphers Association, Executive Director of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, Vice President of the Qinhuangdao Branch of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, Deputy Dean of the Qinhuangdao Branch of Hebei Masters Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Deputy Dean of the Bohai Calligraphy and Painting Academy of Qinhuangdao, Deputy Dean of the Xiangguang Calligraphy and Painting Academy of the Qinhuangdao Buddhist Association, member of the Red Flag Fluttering Calligraphy and Painting Academy (Beijing headquarters), and Art Consultant of the Hebei Association for Exchange of Celebrities and Enterprises at Home and Abroad. Currently, filled with the passion of “the setting sun’s boundless beauty,” Tan Huimin is striving harder than ever along the path of exploring the art of calligraphy.
