Personal Profile
Xu Wanhong, pen name Feihuzi, is Vice President and Secretary-General of Baoding Zhulin Calligraphy and Painting Society, member of the Chinese Poetry Society, Vice President of the Chinese Hanlin Calligraphy and Painting Academy, member of the Hebei Calligraphers Association, and specially appointed external painter of the Baoding Painting Academy. Member of the Baoding Artists Association.         He has loved literature since childhood and has published two books: Selected Poems and Essays of Feihuzi and Selected Poems and Essays of Wanhong. His writings include poetry, ci, qu, fu, folk songs, essays, crosstalk scripts, exhibition prefaces, and other literary forms. He has written over fifty prefaces, postscripts, and introductory texts for various individuals’ publications and exhibitions.         He studied donkey painting under Wang Wenming, a successor of Huang Zhou’s artistic lineage. Integrating his journalistic profession and scholarly knowledge with proficient calligraphy, he has created a unique style of inscriptions within his paintings—incorporating current affairs, historical and philosophical commentary, and poetry—which conveys the cultural spirit of the “cultural donkey.” This integration of poetry, calligraphy, and painting constitutes a tripartite artistic form; such culturally fused “cultural donkey” paintings are considered a national originality.        :March 14, 2016    He was invited to Seoul, South Korea, for a cultural visit, exhibition, and live donkey painting demonstration.        :His calligraphy is rooted in tradition; he favors cursive script and large-character calligraphy, gradually developing his own distinctive style. He has won national first, second, and third prizes.
