Feng Dongliang, born in September 1953, is a native of Shijiazhuang City, originally from Gaoyang, Hebei Province. He graduated from the Art Department of Hebei Normal University and has been engaged in artistic work for fifty years. Major calligraphy works and artistic achievements: In June 1987, his calligraphy work won an Excellence Award in the Shenzhen "Hongli Cup National Calligraphy Competition." In February 1992, his calligraphy was selected for the "Contemporary Chinese Masters Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition" held in Taiwan, winning an Outstanding Work Award; simultaneously, the work was included in the book "Selected Works of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphers," with the title calligraphed by Mr. Liu BingSen. In April 1992, his calligraphy was selected for the "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Touring the United States." In August 1992, he won the First Prize in the "Yulong Cup" National Hard Pen Calligraphy Competition. In November 1992, his calligraphy was selected for the "Huafeng Calligraphy and Painting Masterpieces Exhibition to Japan," exhibited in Roki City, Japan, and collected by the local exhibition institution. In September 1993, his work won the Special Prize in the "Zhengda Cup" Chinese Calligraphy and Seal Carving Competition. In October 1993, he won the Silver Award in the "Qingfeng Cup" Domestic and Overseas Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, with the work archived and preserved by the Tang Qingfeng Pavilion. In December 1993, he won the Second Prize in the "Lihua Cup" Calligraphy and Painting Competition commemorating the 100th anniversary of Chairman Mao Zedong’s birth, held at the First Workers’ Cultural Palace in Shijiazhuang. In October 1994, he won the Silver Award in the "Celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China Domestic and Overseas Calligraphy and Painting Competition" (International Exhibition) and was awarded the honorary title of "International Silver Award Artist." In October 1995, he won the Silver Award in the "1995 Domestic and Overseas Contemporary Calligraphers and Painters Masterpieces Exhibition" and the Bronze Medal in the "Fenghuang Cup" International Calligraphy and Painting Friendship Competition. In August 1996, he won the Masterpiece Award in the "First International Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Grand Exhibition." In July 2007, he won the Special Gold Award in the national calligraphy competition "Deng Xiaoping and Hong Kong’s Return" and was awarded the honorary title of "Outstanding Chinese Art Worker." In July 2007, he won the First Prize in China’s First "Bayi Cup" National Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In 2008, his calligraphy won the Gold Award in Beijing’s "Olympic Journey Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition." In October 2009, he won the First Prize in the calligraphy category of the "United with the Party, Singing the New Hebei—Three-Year Urban Transformation Calligraphy and Painting Competition." In November 2009, he served as a judge for the "Xibaipo Cup" National Calligraphy and Painting Essay Exhibition. In September 2016, he served as a judge for the "Hanmo Zhonghua National Calligraphy and Painting Competition," and was responsible for writing the book title, composing the preface, designing the cover and back cover, and editing the book "Award-Winning Works Collection of the Hanmo Zhonghua National Calligraphy and Painting Competition." In January 2018, he was invited to participate in Hebei TV’s "2018 Hebei Middle-aged and Elderly Spring Festival Gala," performing live calligraphy and recording New Year greetings for television audiences across the province; this Spring Festival program was broadcast multiple times during the Spring Festival on Hebei TV and Shijiazhuang TV… Many of his calligraphy works have been collected by national leaders and institutions and individuals in the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, India, Albania, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and other countries and regions. Some of his calligraphy works have been included in publications such as "Selected Works from the International Touring Exhibition of Six Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters," "Dictionary of Contemporary Domestic and Overseas Calligraphers and Painters," "Selected Works of Contemporary Calligraphers and Painters," "Collection of Works by Contemporary Domestic and Overseas Calligraphers and Painters," "Comprehensive Dictionary of Chinese Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Carving for the Glory of China," "Dictionary of Contemporary World Calligraphers, Painters and Seal Carvers," "Collection of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Works," "Dictionary of Chinese Hard Pen Calligraphy," and "Directory of Contemporary Hard Pen Calligraphers." Since 1980, he has been repeatedly invited to write large-character plaques for hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, stores, enterprises and institutions… As early as the 1980s, many famous old-established businesses located in the bustling Zhongshan Road commercial district of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province—including "Lao Wanbao Department Store," "State-owned Lihua Fabric Store," "Zhongshan Road Department Store," "Shijiazhuang Huaxin Group Zhongshan Road Electrical Materials Store," "Newly Built Wujiaohua Shopping Mall," "Yuxin Stationery Store," "Dongxing Knitwear and Clothing Store," "Yaohua Hotel," "Huabei Hotel," "Bichun Tea Shop," "Zhongshan Road Cosmetics Specialty Store," "Guoda Group Famous Brands Mall," "Shijiazhuang Hongxing Food Market," and "Zhonghua Restaurant"—all had their signboard characters inscribed by Mr. Feng Dongliang… The Great Wall is the backbone of the Chinese nation; Juyong Pass is the world’s most formidable pass. In May 2008, Mr. Feng Dongliang’s meticulously created calligraphy masterpiece "Huahun (Soul of China)" was selected by relevant national authorities and permanently engraved at Juyong Pass of the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing. The work features powerful, vigorous brushwork and majestic grandeur, harmonizing splendidly with the undulating mountains of the Great Wall and the magnificent majesty of Juyong Pass. In April 2006, he wrote illuminated building characters for the "Yuyuan Restaurant" in the provincial capital of Hebei. In June 2008, his calligraphy work "Welcoming the Olympics, National Might and Vigor" was engraved in the Yeshanpo Olympic Stele Forest. In April 2009, Mr. Feng was invited to travel to Japan to participate in the "Ink Affinity—Sino-Japanese Calligraphy and Painting Masters Exchange Exhibition" held in Tokyo. In September 2009, at the invitation of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Museum, he specially inscribed a plaque for "Wang Zuo’s Former Residence." In October 2009, he was invited to inscribe wooden couplets for the main gate of the "Guanyin Hall" at Fenglong Mountain in Hebei Province: "Green Bamboo and Yellow Flowers All Manifest Buddha’s Nature; White Clouds and Flowing Water Embody the Zen Mind." In November 2009, Mr. Feng was invited to write building sign characters for the "Fujian Tea City" in the provincial capital of Hebei. In December 2009, the 2010 calendar "Contemporary Giants of Chinese Calligraphy—Six Most Influential and Collectible Masters on the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of China," published and printed by Beijing Hanhai Qianyi International Cultural Exchange Center, featured calligraphers Li Duo, Ouyang Zhongshi, Shen Peng, Wang Xuezhong, Quan Xijun, and Feng Dongliang. In February 2010, Mr. Feng was invited to inscribe a plaque for the "Lingtong Temple" in Fengning, Chengde. In April 2010, Mr. Feng Dongliang’s personal calligraphy album was included in the commemorative collectible album "Artistic Achievements of Chinese Cultural Masters—Harmonious China," issued by China International Philatelic Corporation. In April 2011, he was invited to inscribe large stone-carved characters for the entrance landscape stone of the "Children and Youth Activity Center" in the provincial capital of Hebei. In May 2011, he was invited to write signboard characters for "Zhuozhou Central City." In July 2011, he inscribed the plaque "Maitreya Hall" and couplets for both sides of the main hall entrance for TianTai Temple in Hebei Province. In September 2011, he was invited to write illuminated rooftop sign characters for the newly constructed commercial building "Lihua Shopping Mall" in Shijiazhuang. In April 2012, he was invited to participate in the large-scale exhibition "Elephant Form of Ink—Three Masters of Large-Character Calligraphy: Guo Yangcheng, Jian Ke, Feng Dongliang," held in the provincial capital of Hebei; Mr. Xu Yu, Vice Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association and Chairman of the Hebei Calligraphers Association, personally inscribed the exhibition title "Elephant Form of Ink." In July 2012, at the invitation of Mao Xiaqing, niece of Chairman Mao Zedong, he specially inscribed plaques for the Mao family: "Ancestral Residence," "Mao Family Garden," and "Mao Xiaqing Study." In August 2015, he was invited to inscribe stone-carved characters for the image wall at the gate of "Lai Shui County No. 3 Middle School" at the foot of Yeshanpo. In September 2016, he was invited to inscribe large-character plaques for the "Lin Jingxi Memorial Hall," a historical figure in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. In October 2016, he was invited to inscribe the school name for "Hebei Daming Jinchi Middle School." In November 2016, he was invited to inscribe wooden plaques for the ancient-style archway "Shimen Old Street" and "Understanding the Past through the Present" in the provincial capital of Hebei, and also inscribed the building sign "Dongming International Jewelry Trading Center." In December 2016, he was invited to inscribe plaques for the "Mahavira Hall," "Wealth God Hall," "Medicine King Hall," and "Baihua Temple," as well as couplets for both sides of the main hall entrance, at Baihua Temple in Luancheng District, Hebei. In March 2017, he was invited to inscribe the plaque "Feast for the World" for the catering industry in Chongqing. In April 2017, he was invited to inscribe large stone-carved characters for the new site of revolutionary martyrs’ cemetery in the provincial capital of Hebei: "Hao Qingyu Martyrs’ Cemetery (stone archway)," "Hao Qingyu Martyrs’ Monument," and "Revolutionary Deeds Exhibition Hall." In June 2017, he was invited to inscribe the storefront sign for "Gudexi Taste Art Museum" in the provincial capital of Hebei. In August 2017, he traveled to Russia and was invited to participate in the "Dreaming of the Winter Olympics—Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition" cultural exchange event. In September 2017, he was invited to inscribe the plaque "World Huishang" for the Anhui Chamber of Commerce. In December 2017, he was invited to inscribe a large-character plaque for the "Hebei Tianxiang Calligraphy and Painting Academy." In January 2018, he inscribed the signboard "Donghai Group" for Dezhou City, Shandong Province. In February 2018, he inscribed the signboard "Senhong Group" for Handan City. In March 2018, at the invitation of the United Front Work Department of Pingshan County, Hebei Province, he specially inscribed the wooden plaque "Lijiazhuang United Front Exhibition Hall" for the former site of the Central United Front Work Department (calligraphed by Mr. Su Shishu, Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association) in the red revolutionary base area, and also inscribed the stone-carved characters "Tongxin Forest" for the square’s landscape stone. In April 2018, he was invited to inscribe plaques "Mahavira Hall" and "Fobao Temple" for Fobao Temple in Xingtang County, Hebei Province. In May 2018, he was invited to inscribe the plaque "Sanxiangyuan" for a commercial storefront in Beijing. In May 2018, he was invited to inscribe the signboard "Pulolan" for Pulolan Electronics Co., Ltd. in South Korea. In October 2018, he inscribed the plaque "Baoquan Temple" for the beautiful Luchuan in Hebei. On December 1, 2018, marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Bank of China, he was specially invited to inscribe the landmark commissioned calligraphy work "The People’s Bank of China Begins Here," which was permanently collected by the museum. On March 30, 2019, the People’s Bank of China Founding Site Museum and Hebei Currency Museum jointly issued the first zodiac commemorative note "Fat Pig Bringing Fortune," on which Mr. Feng Dongliang’s inscription "The People’s Bank of China Begins Here" was selected and printed on the front of the note. In July 2019, he was invited to inscribe plaque characters for the "China Fenglong Mountain Calligraphy and Painting Research and Creation Base." In August 2019, he inscribed the plaque "Xixiang Pavilion" for the historical and cultural street in Zhengding Ancient City, Hebei. In November 2016, he was invited to inscribe wooden plaques for the ancient-style archway "Shimen Old Street" and "Understanding the Past through the Present" in the provincial capital of Hebei, and also inscribed the building sign "Dongming International Jewelry Trading Center." In December 2016, he was invited to inscribe plaques for the "Mahavira Hall," "Wealth God Hall," "Medicine King Hall," and "Baihua Temple," as well as couplets for both sides of the main hall entrance, at Baihua Temple in Luancheng District, Hebei. In March 2017, he was invited to inscribe the plaque "Feast for the World" for the catering industry in Chongqing. In April 2017, he was invited to inscribe large stone-carved characters for the new site of revolutionary martyrs’ cemetery in the provincial capital of Hebei: "Hao Qingyu Martyrs’ Cemetery (stone archway)," "Hao Qingyu Martyrs’ Monument," and "Revolutionary Deeds Exhibition Hall." In June 2017, he was invited to inscribe the storefront sign for "Gudexi Taste Art Museum" in the provincial capital of Hebei. In August 2017, he traveled to Russia and was invited to participate in the "Dreaming of the Winter Olympics—Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition" cultural exchange event. In September 2017, he was invited to inscribe the plaque "World Huishang" for the Anhui Chamber of Commerce. In December 2017, he was invited to inscribe a large-character plaque for the "Hebei Tianxiang Calligraphy and Painting Academy." In January 2018, he inscribed the signboard "Donghai Group" for Dezhou City, Shandong Province. In February 2018, he inscribed the signboard "Senhong Group" for Handan City. In March 2018, at the invitation of the United Front Work Department of Pingshan County, Hebei Province, he specially inscribed the wooden plaque "Lijiazhuang United Front Exhibition Hall" for the former site of the Central United Front Work Department (calligraphed by Mr. Su Shishu, Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association) in the red revolutionary base area, and also inscribed the stone-carved characters "Tongxin Forest" for the square’s landscape stone. In April 2018, he was invited to inscribe plaques "Mahavira Hall" and "Fobao Temple" for Fobao Temple in Xingtang County, Hebei Province. In May 2018, he was invited to inscribe the plaque "Sanxiangyuan" for a commercial storefront in Beijing. In May 2018, he was invited to inscribe the signboard "Pulolan" for Pulolan Electronics Co., Ltd. in South Korea. In October 2018, he inscribed the plaque "Baoquan Temple" for the beautiful Luchuan in Hebei. On December 1, 2018, marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Bank of China, he was specially invited to inscribe the landmark commissioned calligraphy work "The People’s Bank of China Begins Here," which was permanently collected by the museum. On March 30, 2019, the People’s Bank of China Founding Site Museum and Hebei Currency Museum jointly issued the first zodiac commemorative note "Fat Pig Bringing Fortune," on which Mr. Feng Dongliang’s inscription "The People’s Bank of China Begins Here" was selected and printed on the front of the note. In July 2019, he was invited to inscribe plaque characters for the "China Fenglong Mountain Calligraphy and Painting Research and Creation Base." In August 2019, he inscribed the plaque "Xixiang Pavilion" for the historical and cultural street in Zhengding Ancient City, Hebei. In September 2019, he was invited to inscribe the plaque "Min’an Archway" for the archway inside the Children and Youth Activity Center in the provincial capital of Hebei… Over the years, many of Mr. Feng Dongliang’s calligraphy works and critical reviews by numerous art critics have been simultaneously published in newspapers and magazines such as Hebei Daily, Hebei Workers’ Daily, Shijiazhuang Daily, Yanzhao Evening News, Hebei Pictorial, Culture Hebei, Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting, People Weekly, Hebei Collection, Times Calligraphy and Painting News, China Reform News, China News Focus, Public Relations World, Chinese Sons and Daughters, Popular Arts • Education and Art, Oriental Elite, and Beijing’s "New Focus in the Art Market." CCTV’s Digital Calligraphy and Painting Channel, Hebei TV, Hebei Broadband Network, and Shijiazhuang TV have all conducted personal interviews and special reports on Mr. Feng Dongliang’s calligraphy art creation.
