Personal Profile
Li Yugang, born in 1967, is a native of Jing County, Hebei, and the master of Shangyizhai Studio. He is a member of the Ji School Inside Painting Association, a Hebei Provincial Arts and Crafts Master, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, and a member of the Chinese Artists Association. He is one of the few artistic masters who excel in both inside painting and traditional Chinese painting.
In his early years, he studied inside painting under the renowned Ji School master Sun Honglin, specializing in landscape and figure painting. Later, he became a disciple of the famous inside painting master Wang Guanyu to further his studies.
In the mid-1990s, he entered the Central Academy of Fine Arts for a systematic three-year study of calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting techniques, and received personal guidance from the renowned calligrapher Mr. Qi Gong.
His works feature a unique style, elegant yet not vulgar, and have won national-level awards three times. He has participated in numerous domestic and international calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and his works have been collected by many collectors and museums. Many of his pieces have been published in fine arts and calligraphy newspapers and magazines. His calligraphy emphasizes sincerity and authenticity, with profound foundations in regular script and vigorous, powerful running-regular script. His traditional Chinese landscape paintings are refined in brushwork and ink, full of vitality and distinctive style, establishing him as a master of calligraphy and painting of his generation.
Mr. Li Yugang’s calligraphy works have won first prize in national calligraphy competitions twice. He has held multiple large-scale solo exhibitions in art galleries in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and other cities. His works have been collected by friends from the United States, Japan, and South Korea, and have considerable influence in Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore and Thailand.
