Ma Yuhui (calligraphy name: Cheng Zhi, Yu Hui, Qinglan Caotang), born in the 1960s, holds a postgraduate degree and has worked in comprehensive manuscript writing for 30 years. Member of the Hebei Calligraphers Association and the Hebei Writers Association. Practicing calligraphy since childhood, he studied the styles of the Two Wangs and began with Ouyang Xun’s regular script, extensively copying ancient inscriptions including Bronze Script, Stone Drum Script, Qin Seal Script, Cuan Script, Clerical Script, Tang Dynasty regular script, as well as the calligraphy of Su Shi and Huang Tingjian. He specializes particularly in Wei Stele Script (Cuan Script), emphasizing the ideational and artistic qualities of calligraphy, and has won numerous awards in calligraphy exhibitions. In August 2016, he held a solo calligraphy exhibition titled “Brush Follows the Heart” in Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital, exhibiting 50 works in various scripts and hosting a symposium on his works. Attending the symposium were Liu Jin Kai, Vice Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association and Chairman of the Hebei Calligraphers Association; Pan Xuecong, Jian Ke, and Fu Dianchuan, Vice Chairmen of the Hebei Calligraphers Association, along with other calligraphers and critics. The event received coverage from media outlets such as Shijiazhuang Evening News and Great Wall Net, generating positive responses both within and beyond the province. Published works include: “Brush Follows the Heart — Ma Yuhui’s Calligraphy Collection,” “Hebei Provincial Conditions Reader” (published by Hebei People’s Publishing House), “Written Along the Margins of Manuscripts” (published by Hebei Huashan Literature and Art Publishing House), “Rooted in Fertile Soil, There Must Be Drama: Selected Research Essays” (published by Hebei Education Publishing House), and “Yiqu Xiaopin — Selected Recent Calligraphy Works by Ma Yuhui.” He participated in drafting “The Complete Book of Chinese Secretaries” and “Modern General Official Document Writing” organized by the General Office of the Central Committee. Over the years, he has published a large number of poems, essays, political commentaries, and research reports in newspapers and periodicals both within and outside the province.
