Liu Wenwei, pen name: Taoyu, born in 1960, is a native of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. He is a painter and calligrapher, National First-Class Artist, China’s Outstanding Artist, and Most Collectible Artist.
Passionate about painting and calligraphy since childhood, he graduated from university in 1985 and entered the workforce, later venturing into business. Over the past decade, he has returned to painting and calligraphy, and his artworks have been widely loved by the public! Possessing exceptional linguistic talent, he has devoted himself to studying masterpieces such as Zheng Banqiao’s works, Ouyang Xun’s "Jiucheng Palace," clerical script, flat-Wei script, and Wang Xizhi’s "Lanting Xu."
His works are highly praised by experts for their artistic influence and emotional appeal. His superior pieces feature plump, elegant forms, fresh and graceful compositions, sparse layouts, and subtle coloring. His brushwork, blending meticulous and freehand techniques, conveys a sense of simplicity and tranquility. He is especially skilled in painting birds, fish, dogs, and similar subjects.
