Zhang Liangzhan, styled Dangwu, styled Dianyun. Born in 1955, native of Luquan District, Shijiazhuang City.
After joining the army in 1976, he began participating in calligraphy and painting exhibitions and winning awards;
In 1989, after being transferred to a cultural department, his calligraphy works were selected for municipal and county-level calligraphy and painting exhibitions and won awards;
In 2000, he participated in the "Fenglong Mountain Cup" National Calligraphy and Painting Competition, winning the second prize in clerical script;
In 2009, he organized and participated in the series of activities of the "Yanzhao Spring Wind" provincial calligraphy and painting exhibition competition, winning the first prize in seal script.
Starting in 2015, he turned to focus on China's sixth script style—“Yan Shu” (Ma-style, willow-leaf style) calligraphy. Under the guidance of renowned artists Su Jusheng and Chen Donglai, his skills in Yan Shu progressed rapidly. In the same year, he participated with Yan Shu works in the art and photography exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of Tibet, receiving widespread acclaim from both the public and experts.
In 2017, he won the Excellence Award in the first "Baishi Cup" Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Art Competition, and also received the third prize in the "Huaxia Artists Calligraphy and Painting Competition," being honored with the title of "Charity Artist."
In 2018, his Yan Shu works participated in the national touring exhibition organized by the China Folk Calligraphy and Painting Research Association to commemorate the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up, where they were awarded the佳作奖 (Fine Work Award), and he was honored as the "Most Influential Calligraphy Artist of 2018" by the association.
Mr. Zhang Liangzhan frequently participates in charitable public welfare activities such as calligraphy and painting donations and charity sales. His Yan Shu style is distinctive, refreshing, unique, combining poetry and calligraphy harmoniously, preserving tradition while innovating. He is dedicated to inheriting and promoting the new calligraphic trend of "Yan Shu" pioneered by Master Ma Yong'an, bringing a fresh atmosphere to the calligraphy and painting scene of Hebei. His Yan Shu works have been collected by numerous renowned artists and art galleries.
Mr. Zhang Liangzhan is a member of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Friendship Association, a member of the China Folk Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, a member of the Military Branch of the Hebei Mao-style Calligraphy Research Association, an academician of the Hebei Academy of Sinology’s Calligraphy and Painting Institute, and an academician of the Hebei Taihang Calligraphy and Painting Academy. He currently serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the Famous People's Art Association of the Hebei Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and as editor and reporter for the magazine "Yanzhao Oriental Celebrities Art."
Yan Shu is the sixth script following running, cursive, clerical, seal, and regular scripts. Evaluated and officially recognized by experts and national intellectual property institutions, it was formally established and named "China's Sixth Script—Yan Shu" in 2011. Practice has proven that the innovative emergence of Yan Shu is triggering a transformation in the history of Chinese calligraphy.
