Liu Shicai, pen name Liu Shangqing.
He received early education from his family, graduated from the Law Department of university, served in the military for over a decade, and after demobilization, worked in the education system. He is currently a meticulous-style Chinese painting artist. His studio names include Shang Mi Xuan Zhu, Liu Lin Zhuang Zhu; alternative titles: San Shan Daoist, Jin Xing Ge Zhu, Qingcheng Mountain Hermit.
 
Currently holds the following positions:
Member of Hebei Branch of China Artists Association;
Vice Chairman of Xinhua District Artists Association, Cangzhou City;
Director of China Calligraphy and Painting Heritage Art Academy;
Editorial Board Member of "Cross-Century World Masters of Calligraphy and Painting";
Executive Vice President of China Liu Clan Calligraphy and Painting Research Association.
 
Passionate about calligraphy and painting since childhood, he enlisted in the army in 1981 and served as bodyguard for Chairmen Peng Zhen, Chu Tunan, and Yan Jici. During this time, he devoted his spare time to studying calligraphy and painting. Later, while working at the Security Division of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, he gained more opportunities to accompany central leaders to exhibitions of renowned artists held at venues such as the National Art Museum of China, the Palace Museum, Yan Huang Art Museum, and the National Museum of Chinese History. Through interactions with masters of calligraphy and painting, he continuously improved his artistic cultivation. His works have been exhibited in numerous domestic and international exhibitions, some of which were auctioned at Beijing auction houses and featured in interviews and reports by CCTV.
 
He studied under Mr. Mi Chunmao, member of China Artists Association, National First-Class Artist, recipient of State Council Special Allowance, Master of Arts and Crafts, and renowned meticulous-style painter famously known as “King of Meticulous Cats.” He was formally adopted as Mi’s godson and disciple, specializing in small animals, particularly excelling in meticulous-style kittens. He also studied at the China National Academy of Painting, Tsinghua University Academy of Arts, and in the studio of Mr. Xiao Kuan, expert judge of the Ministry of Culture’s Art Talent Database. Cangzhou TV has produced three special documentaries on his artistic achievements as a local celebrity. Due to his distinctive, creatively shaped, and auspiciously symbolic freehand-style cat paintings, he is widely acclaimed as Hebei’s most distinctive freehand cat painter!
 
In 2015, he was nominated as a candidate for “Outstanding Chinese-American Artist,” and his artworks were selected as designs for U.S. postage stamps, issued nationwide in the United States and globally. He was honored to be jointly recommended by CCTV Brand Influence, China Good Brand Network, and New Business Weekly as a co-initiator of "China Brand Day." In 2017, he participated in the filming of the locally-themed Cangzhou microfilm [Biao Bu Han Cang], playing a leading role in the film.
