Gao Jun, also known as Haoran Gao Jun, is a bird-and-flower painter, calligrapher, musician, vocal education expert, and photographer.
Gao Jun, styled Haoran, known as Haoran Gao Jun, is originally from Hebei Province, born in Heilongjiang Province, and currently resides in Harbin City.
He currently serves as Executive Chairman and Secretary-General of the Alliance of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphers and Painters. He is a member of the Heilongjiang Calligraphers Association and the Heilongjiang Musicians Association, Director of the Suihua Artists Association, Director of the Calligraphers Association, Director of the Musicians Association, Chairman of the Hailun Vocal Music Association, Vice Chairman of the Hailun Artists Association, Executive Vice Chairman of the Hailun Musicians Association, and Dean of the Bigexiang Calligraphy and Painting Academy. He is the founder of the first art institution in Heilongjiang Province to recruit students provincewide and beyond via provincial television. With over 30 years dedicated to art education, he continues to persist in calligraphy, painting, and music creation. His calligraphy and painting works have been collected by art institutions and collectors in Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, and Yunnan provinces.
Awards and Honors In 1983, students he mentored won one silver and one bronze award at the China-Japan Youth Calligraphy Exchange Exhibition;
In 1984, his guidance in extracurricular art, calligraphy, and music activities received commendation from relevant Heilongjiang provincial departments, which organized a province-wide on-site observation conference;
In 1985, he received an award from the Communist Youth League Central Committee for organizing extracurricular activities;
In 2013, Gao Jun’s cursive script works were broadcast multiple times on CCTV’s Calligraphy and Painting Channel;
Between 2016 and 2020, he successively authored and published “Gao Jun’s Brief Discussion on Appreciating Freehand Bird-and-Flower Painting,” “Gao Jun’s Brief Discussion on Appreciating Cursive Script,” and “Gao Jun Shares with You on Flower Photography.” He edited and produced “Speaking Through Painting: 2019 Online Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Painters,” and participated in editing and producing the online exhibition “Calligraphers and Painters Take Action Against the Epidemic,” organized by the Suihua Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Suihua Artists Association, and the Alliance of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphers and Painters;
In 2020, Xinhua News Agency’s client platform published “Gao Jun, a Leading Figure in the Art World — An Emerging Master of Freehand Bird-and-Flower Painting”; the “National Treasure Artists” platform published “National Treasure Artist Gao Jun.” His calligraphy works and biographical profile have been included in multiple authoritative dictionaries such as “Dictionary of Contemporary Young Chinese Calligraphers” and “Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Literary and Art Figures.” In 1976, songs composed by Gao Jun while serving in the military art troupe, “Happy Water” and “Spring Thunder,” were broadcast on Liaoning TV, among which “Happy Water” was incorporated into the music curriculum of the Western Liaoning Art School;
In 1983, his compositions “Lotus,” “Morning Star,” and “Little Umbrella” were broadcast on Heilongjiang TV;
In 1989, he won first prize in the bel canto category at the Twelve Cities Vocal Teacher Competition of the Suihua Region. His paper “Preliminary Discussion on Vocal Music Teaching” received the Heilongjiang Provincial Outstanding Paper Award and was published in the “Collection of Outstanding Papers of Heilongjiang Province.”
Between 1982 and 2015, he trained numerous music teachers for various regions inside and outside the province and delivered outstanding talents to renowned domestic music academies. He cultivated and sent to the national vocal stage: Yu Naijiu, tenor of the Beijing Military Region Comrades Art Troupe and Gold Prize winner in the professional bel canto category at CCTV’s 8th National Young Singers Television Grand Prix; Yi Hongyuan, one of China’s New Top Ten Sopranos and fifth-generation performer of “Sister Jiang”; university lecturers Zhao Xinying and Lun Yanyan; Dan Feng, host of Heilongjiang TV; Ji Lisha, first prize winner of Heilongjiang’s ethnic singing category; and many outstanding students admitted to institutions including the Central Conservatory of Music, China Conservatory of Music, Central University for Nationalities, PLA Arts Academy, Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Xi’an Conservatory of Music, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and Wuhan Conservatory of Music.
