Zhang Yanming, male, native of Xian County, Hebei, member of the Communist Party of China, born in September 1967, enlisted in October 1986, holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Transferred to civilian work in Beijing in 2009, holds dual bachelor’s degrees, self-studied undergraduate degree in law, and is committed to actively contributing to the construction of socialist legal system and culture. Currently serves as a member of the Beijing Calligraphers Association, artist committee member of the Plaque Culture and Art Committee of the China International Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Association under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, member of the Large-Character Calligraphy Art Research Association of the China Association for the Promotion of Cultural and Art Development, and specially invited art consultant for the magazine “News Front” of the People’s Daily Press, among other positions.
Has loved calligraphy and painting since childhood, inherited traditional styles, learned from the masters, and has practiced diligently without pause, specializing in Han dynasty clerical script “Cao Quan Stele.” His calligraphy works have been collected by state organs, military units, enterprises and institutions, the Great Hall of the People, Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, universities and colleges, the Palace Museum, the National Museum of China, and other organizations, social groups, and domestic and international friends.
Many years of military service have tempered his strong will and spirit of enduring hardship. He has been awarded multiple commendations and honors; repeatedly recognized as an outstanding Communist Party member; consecutively named an advanced individual in news publicity work by the Beijing Military Region Command for seven years; published the poetry and prose collection “The Weeping Red Candle” through China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing House in 2005; his written articles have won awards multiple times in military and civilian newspapers, magazines, and essay contests. He has published numerous news reports, personal interviews, and art critiques on calligraphers and painters in newspapers and periodicals such as “PLA Daily,” “Comrade-in-Arms Daily,” “Guangming Daily,” “China Culture Daily,” “China Art Newspaper,” “Popular Science and Technology Daily,” “Today’s Information Daily,” and “Shijingshan Daily.” (Written by Cui Hongwei)
