Bi Yanhuai
Personal Profile

Bi Yanhuai, a native of Baoding, Hebei, is a professional painter. He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, Vice President of the Baoding Arts and Crafts Folklore Society, a renowned realist painter, and currently holds the title of National First-Class Artist.

He began studying painting from childhood and specializes in traditional Chinese ink paintings featuring landscapes and birds-and-flowers, particularly roosters. His paintings vividly and uniquely capture the spirit of roosters, fully expressing their four virtues (civilization, martial prowess, benevolence, and faithfulness). While showcasing the majestic demeanor of roosters, his works also reflect the artist’s own spiritual outlook and emotional depth, earning great favor among collectors and being widely recognized and collected by many (by Li Liyun, renowned playwright).

The renowned calligrapher Wang Feng composed a poem for Bi Yanhuai’s paintings:

Possessing fully the four virtues—civil, martial, brave, and kind,
Standing alone at the fifth watch, clad in colorful robes against the chill.
Dutiful and silent in service,
At the rooster’s crow, ten thousand households awaken.
