Personal Profile
Li Jianwen, painter, from Guilin, Guangxi, is a contemporary master of large-scale ink splashing and color splashing art and one of the Top 100 Young Chinese Artists. He is currently an advisor to the Handicraft Art Committee of the China Culture Association, a specially invited painter of the China Calligraphy and Painting Art Exchange Center, a member of the China Famous Artists Calligraphy and Painting Federation, a member of the China Cultural Art Federation, a member of the Guangxi Artists Association, a first-class painter of the Shenzhou Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, Secretary-General of the Exhibition Department of the Guilin Chinese Painting Research Society, a guest professor of the Daqing Saibei Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Deputy Director and Professor of the Guilin Yayuan Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and a researcher at the Guilin Seven-People Chinese Painting Gallery.
Born into a family of calligraphers and painters, Li Jianwen has been deeply influenced by his family tradition since childhood and diligently studied calligraphy and painting. Later, he developed a profound passion for the Chinese freehand ink splashing and color splashing art, dedicating himself to researching the techniques of large-scale ink and color splashing in Chinese painting. He studied the ink and color splashing methods of great masters such as Zhang Daqian and Li Keran. Through continuous research and experimentation, he explored the artistic language of integrating ink splashing and color splashing with brushwork and dyeing. His works feature ink that appears as if poured out, exuding a vigorous and unrestrained momentum. He employs lines to shape forms while integrating rich connotations within the dynamic interplay of black, white, and vibrant colors. The ink flows naturally with the water’s momentum, and the water carries the ink to spread widely, filling the canvas with colorful vitality. He creates a striking contrast between the hazy, ethereal “void” and the meticulously rendered architectural elements and ancient pines, constructing monumental ink-and-color splashed masterpieces of grand scale and majestic power.
