Zhang Xiaoshi, male, born in 1976, currently resides in Qingdao. His real name is Zhang Chunlin. He graduated from the Chinese Painting major of Shandong Normal University. He has established the Zhang Xiaoshi Zhimo Painting Art Studio, mainly engaged in the creation and inheritance of Zhimo painting.
Zhimo painting is a precious intangible cultural heritage with a history of 1500 years. It originated in the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Qing Dynasty. The art of Zhimo painting has been passed down among the people in the Jiaodong Peninsula and Chengyang area for a long time. Among them, "Zhang family's Zhimo painting" is the most ancient and beautiful and the most representative, hence it is named "Zhang family's Zhimo painting". The works of "Zhang family's Zhimo painting" mainly focus on landscapes, flowers and birds, and occasionally traditional opera characters. They are distinctive, elegant, with a classical and refined style, and are an important representation of folk art in the Jiaodong region. In recent years, the techniques of Zhang family's Zhimo painting have been repeatedly interviewed and reported by multiple TV stations and news media, adding a beautiful color to the local area. As a valuable intangible cultural heritage from the folk, Zhimo painting is currently facing the risk of being almost lost due to factors such as the difficulty of learning and imitating, high starting point, and long learning period.
The themes of Zhang family's Zhimo painting mostly come from traditional Chinese painting and folk art. Through finger techniques such as dotting, rubbing, outlining, and pressing, the ink is applied directly, making the ink as flexible as the fingers, and the fingers as expressive as the intention. Thus, its works have a sense of heavy and ancient ink, fresh and solid, powerful and deep, with a broad and thick composition. Zhimo painting does not need to use a brush, but directly uses fingers dipped in ink to paint on paper.
As a representative inheritor of Chengyang Zhimo painting skills, Zhang Xiaoshi has experienced three generations of transmission and after years of artistic training and belief persistence, his works have frequently won awards in national competitions, and has received high recognition and praise from experts in the same industry domestically.
