Lei Guanxing, styled Yuheng, also known as Yu Heng from Longshang, Yuanmo, and titled Master of Hengbao Studio and Master of Baifutang, was born in 1954 in Wushan, Gansu, China. He is a First-Class Calligrapher and Senior Appraiser.
Currently serves as: Standing Director of the Ink and Wash Painting Academy, CCTV Education Channel’s “Ink and Wash Danqing” Column Group; Council Member of the China Calligraphy and Painting Artists Association; Vice Chairman of the Gansu Branch of the China Calligraphy and Painting Artists Association; Creative Committee Member of the China Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute; Committee Member of the Calligraphy and Painting Specialized Committee of the China Art Society; Deputy President of Lanzhou Calligraphy and Painting Institute; Council Member of the Gansu Calligraphy and Painting Research Committee; Deputy President of the Dunhuang Buddhist Calligraphy and Painting Institute.
His works have participated multiple times in provincial, municipal, and national competitions. In 2005, he won the Bronze Award in the “Lucky China” National Calligraphy and Painting Golden Ding Award Submission Activity. In 2006, his work was selected for the “Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March” Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, where he received the Gold Award. In 2009, his work was selected for the “Gansu Calligraphy and Painting Exchange Exhibition Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.” His works were successively selected for the Second and Third China Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute Gansu Calligraphy and Painting Exchange Exhibitions, earning Outstanding Awards. At the Fourth National Calligraphy and Painting Competition, he won the Silver Award.
In 2011, his works “Family Harmony Brings Prosperity” and the character “Buddha” were permanently collected by the Singapore Art General Association. He has been successively honored with titles including “Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Master,” “Outstanding Calligrapher and Painter,” “Highly Influential Calligrapher and Painter,” and “Top 100 Calligraphers and Painters of China.”
In 2010 and 2011, he was successively awarded the titles of “Outstanding Master of Calligraphy and Painting of the People’s Republic of China” and “Cultural Figure of the Century.”
In 2016, he was invited to participate in the “Transmitting Positive Energy—2016 Patriotic Public Welfare Figures Large-Scale Calligraphy and Painting Symposium” held in Beijing to celebrate the 67th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, winning the Gold Award; his work was collected by the organizing committee. He also joined the delegation on cultural exchange activities in Hong Kong and Macao. His artistic biography has been included in publications such as “2016 Outstanding Workers’ Charm Record” and “Transmitting Positive Energy—2016 Patriotic Public Welfare Figures Dictionary.”
In December 2017, he was invited to participate in CETV China Education Television’s “Splashing Chinese Sentiment” 2018 Spring Festival Calligraphy and Painting Gala.
