Personal Profile
Fan Zhijie, art name: Master of Jiege Calligraphy and Painting Studio, hails from Longnan, Gansu Province, born in 1988, holds a university degree. He is currently a Senior Registered Instructor of the Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Education Society, a Mid-to-Senior Researcher at Qingying Academy, a member of the China Huaxia Wanlixing Calligraphers and Painters Association, a member of the China Public Welfare Calligraphers Association, Secretary-General of Xiemoge Calligraphy and Painting Academy, a New Era Chinese Young Calligrapher and Painter, a Contemporary Chinese Master Painter, a First-Class Artisan, and a New Era Creative School Calligrapher.
Since childhood, he has been passionate about calligraphy and painting, studying Northern Stele inscriptions while also practicing Southern Handwriting styles, with a particular fondness for running and cursive scripts. Immersed in the vast seas of scholarly literature, he has devoted over a decade to diligent study and faithful copying of the works of calligraphic masters such as Zhao Mengfu and the Two Wangs, never ceasing his brushwork. His persistent pursuit has resulted in calligraphy that is vigorous and powerful, combining roundness and angularity, balancing strength and grace. He is equally devoted to painting, rigorously studying and practicing various flower-and-bird subjects, with a primary focus on plum blossoms. He takes renowned contemporary Chinese calligraphers and painters such as Guan Shanyue and Wang Chengxi as his role models. He has studied under teachers Yan Shi and Liu Ying, particularly admiring Wang Chengxi’s style of plum blossom painting. He frequently consults with renowned calligraphers and painters, diligently studying Wang Chengxi’s techniques, and through the guidance of Teacher Yan Shi, he has deeply grasped the essence of this art. His plum blossoms display myriad postures, lifelike and vivid—so realistic that one can almost smell their fragrance through the screen. His work has earned widespread acclaim from all sectors of society.
The path of artistic creation is arduous. Armed with unwavering determination and a tenacious "nail spirit," he works during the day and devotes himself to painting at night, steadily exploring and advancing along his artistic journey—neither chasing trends nor seeking superficial attention. In technique, he inherits the traditions of Chinese painting while incorporating elements of Western expressionism. His compositions are grand and bold, innovative in structure, and his brushwork is robust and expressive. Each masterpiece infuses rich emotion and creative inspiration.        The plum blossom is a spiritual symbol of the Chinese nation, embodying resilience, indomitability, courage, and self-reliance—qualities beloved by the people. In the bitter cold, it blooms first among all flowers, heralding the arrival of spring, thus becoming a吉祥symbol of good fortune and joy. "Endowed with supreme beauty by heaven, it blooms against the harsh winter," it is one of the Four Gentlemen of Flowers and represents the highest ideal of Chinese literati character. Thus, plum blossom paintings have been widely cherished by calligraphy and painting enthusiasts.
The plum blossom bears five petals, symbolizing Fu (blessing), Lu (prosperity), Shou (longevity), Xi (happiness), and Cai (wealth). Its interplay of solidity and emptiness evokes an image of a vast grove of fiery red plum trees behind each branch. Each delicate blossom suggests continuous joy. Displayed in homes or living rooms, it signifies rising fortunes and vibrant prosperity. Since ancient times, the plum has been a favorite subject of poets: "Sword sharpness comes from honing; plum fragrance emerges from bitter cold," and "Without enduring piercing frost, how could one scent the intoxicating fragrance of plum blossoms?" Possessing noble bones, the plum never boasts. Every winter morning, a unique, refined, and elegant fragrance drifts through the window. The plum is admired not only for its elegant grace, which has inspired countless poets and painters throughout history, but also for its icy purity and lingering fragrance, revered as the soul of the Chinese nation. With its lofty integrity, strength, and humility, the plum inspires people to strive forward with resolve.
Mr. Fan Zhijie’s plum blossom paintings exhibit ingenious composition and elegant coloring. Dense yet orderly, original in conception, layered and dreamlike, they convey the vitality and vigor of plum branches in full bloom, imbued with poetic charm. Delicate shadows stretch diagonally, subtle fragrance floats gently—viewers feel as if walking amidst them, reluctant to leave. Perfectly suited for display in living rooms, entryways, dining areas, or bedrooms, his works appeal to both connoisseurs and general audiences alike. His artworks are collected by enthusiasts both within China and overseas!
