Personal Profile
Chang Hongren (Chang Hongren), male, Han ethnicity, courtesy name: Xiaoru, pen name: Deming, member of the Communist Party of China. Born in 1966 in Tongwei County, Gansu Province, known as the "Hometown of Calligraphy and Painting Art," he was deeply influenced from childhood by the local cultural heritage and his family’s artistic traditions, developing a profound passion for calligraphy and painting. He has persistently pursued self-study in the structure of calligraphy, brush techniques, composition, and diligently practiced copying and studying classical models. From an early age, he copied all major Tang Dynasty regular script styles, including those of Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, and Ouyang Xun; later, he studied clerical script through masterpieces such as the Cao Quan Stele, Yi Ying Stele, and Liqi Stele; for running and cursive script, he emulated the styles of Mi Fu, Su Shi, and Huang Tingjian, practicing with Wang Xizhi’s Seventeen Posts, the Shengjiao Sequence, and the Lan Ting Xu; for seal script, he studied inscriptions such as the Stone Drum Texts, the Qin Yishan Stele, and Deng Shiru’s seal script. For decades, he has remained unwavering in his devotion to ink and brush, always seizing moments of leisure to diligently practice on his inkstone, extensively reading and accumulating knowledge. He is proficient in multiple scripts, drawing inspiration from ancient traditions while innovating beyond them—learning from the past without being bound by it. With broad scholarly reading and profound artistic foundation, his work reflects deep mastery. He has won numerous national awards in calligraphy and painting competitions. In 2019, he received the First Prize in the inaugural "Linchi Cup" National Calligraphy and Painting Competition; in 2020, he earned the Outstanding Award in the Modern Master "Huaxia Celebrity Cup" National Calligraphy and Painting Competition. His works have been collected by the Beijing Hanmo Cangbao Tianxia Academy of Calligraphy and Painting. He is currently a member of the China International Academy of Calligraphy and Painting Art and a member of the Beijing Hanmo Cangbao Tianxia Academy of Calligraphy and Painting.
