Personal Profile
Huang Chuantong, male, Han ethnicity, high school education. Born in 1958 in Tingping, Minhou, Ningde, Fujian.
Since childhood, he has had a deep affection for calligraphy art; in elementary school, his handwriting was among the best in the class! After completing his studies and entering society, he never interrupted his practice of calligraphy, beginning with the four major characteristics of Jin and Tang dynasty calligraphy. While copying classical models, he developed a particular fondness for the style of Zhao Mengfu, observing with great care and persistently practicing at the inkstone. Eventually, he developed his own unique style. In his early years, he was greatly inspired and benefited by the book "Notes by the Inkstone" by Chen Xiuqing of Minhou. His calligraphy works have won awards in provincial and national calligraphy exhibitions and have been collected by individuals, companies, and overseas Chinese. In recent years, he has gained recognition for inscribing characters on ancient architectural structures and couplets in the local area. He has participated in several exhibitions hosted by the Minhou cultural and artistic circles, titled "Tracing the Source and Flow — A Calligraphy Copying Exhibition of Jin and Tang Styles," which were offered as free public exhibitions for the promotion of Minhou calligraphy art.
This experience has greatly broadened my horizons and left a profound impression. Although I am already in my sixties, I remain confident in my pursuit of calligraphy art. I am deeply interested in the vast and profound Chinese calligraphy tradition spanning five thousand years, as well as the study of oracle bone script calligraphy, and I actively exchange and learn with fellow calligraphy enthusiasts.
