Ao Chenghai, formerly known as Xi Rongtang, currently uses the pen name Ba You. Born in 1965 in Anshun, Guizhou. He has been studying calligraphy art for over 40 years without interruption. From 1985 to 1987, he studied at the Wuxi Calligraphy Art College in Jiangsu. In 1989, he invented the "Double-Tube Brush," which was granted a national invention patent. His calligraphy works have been exhibited multiple times in large-scale calligraphy and painting exhibitions both domestically and internationally. In October–November 2001, he successfully held the "Ao Chenghai Personal Hundred-Piece Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition" in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province. Nearly a hundred calligraphy and painting pieces are collected by institutions and individuals alike. China Post publicly issued the "Ao Chenghai Personal Calligraphy and Painting Commemorative Album" in 2013 and 2014.
Two cursive script works have been carved into stone at the Guanyinge Rock Stele Forest in Liaoning. His biography and works are included in publications such as "Collection of Contemporary Calligraphers and Painters," "Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Masterpieces Collection," and "China Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Collecting Yearbook."
