Chen Xingrong, male, born in 1958, is from Fucheng Town, Xianyou County, Fujian Province—the hometown of Cai Xiang, a renowned calligrapher, literary figure, and high-ranking official of the Northern Song Dynasty. He currently serves as a council member of the Xianyou County Fucheng Cultural Research Association.
Passionate about calligraphy since childhood, he was deeply influenced by Lin Zuyao, an elder-generation painter and calligrapher. For decades, he has regarded calligraphy as a major source of spiritual joy. While absorbing the essence of ancient masters, he has also participated in numerous international and domestic calligraphy exhibitions and competitions, learning their finest elements. His style never seeks eccentricity or novelty, but instead embraces natural spontaneity and elegance.
He excels in regular script, running-cursive script, and clerical script. His running-cursive style blends strength and grace, featuring flowing elegance, harmonious rhythm, vigorous brushwork, and a distinctive personal flair. His clerical script, rooted in the study of Han Dynasty models, is vigorous, archaic, refined, and rich in flavor.
In November 1992, his calligraphy work was selected by the judging committee of the "Tianma Cup" International Painting, Calligraphy, and Seal Carving Competition and collected by the Library of Jilin Province.
In May 1993, his calligraphy work was exhibited in Himeji, Kobe, and other cities in Japan through the China-Japan Friendship Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition, making a positive contribution to Sino-Japanese friendship and cultural exchange.
In May 1993, his work was selected for the First "Ode to the Motherland" National Calligraphy Exhibition and preserved by Gumo Calligraphy School and Gumo Calligraphy Association.
In June 1996, he participated in the Chinese Cultural and Art Seminar, where his works met the qualification criteria for inclusion in the national art talent database, and he was appointed as an invited creator.
On May 18, 2008, during the charity art sale event titled "Wanshou Pagoda Cup" Earthquake Relief Donation organized by the Xianyou County Painting and Calligraphy Art Research Institute in Sichuan's Wenchuan (May 12 earthquake), he made an active contribution. The proceeds from the auction—730,000 RMB—were fully delivered to the disaster area through the Civil Affairs Department system, and all his donated works were highly sought after by art enthusiasts.
