Fu Chunlin

Fu Chunlin (1962.4.15-), also known as Shi and Zhengzhongshan, was born in Shangrao, Jiangxi. Master of contemporary Chinese traditional culture, leading figure in calligraphy and painting, poet, national first-class artist, and representative inheritor of national intangible cultural heritage. I am currently an advisor to the Calligraphy and Painting Art Center of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, a member of the China Democratic Promotion Association, a member of the Shangrao Municipal Political Consultative Conference, and the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association. Was rated as a national young and middle-aged literary and artistic worker, cultural master, and "four batches" talent, and enjoys special allowances from the State Council as an art expert. Visiting professor and academic committee member at major universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Sichuan University of Culture and Arts. Visiting scholar at the Department of Arts, University of California, USA. Advisor to the Shanghai Hongkou Calligraphy and Painting Academy of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Dean of the Shanghai Huanyu Temple Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Shandong Zhengjue Temple Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and other nationally renowned calligraphy and painting academies. Director of the Central State Calligraphers Association, member of the China US Association, member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, calligraphy professor, member of the Chinese Couplet Association, consultant of the Shanghai General Culture and Art Center, and executive vice president of the Chinese Traditional Culture Buddhist Society. It combines three world awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Louvre Museum in France, the Gold Award at the International Art Fair in the United States, and the Gold Award at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Competition in Japan. The works have been collected by authoritative institutions such as the Great Hall of the People, Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, China Museum, and National Art Museum of China. As a national gift, calligraphy and painting works have been presented to foreign heads of state and international friends such as former US President Obama, Russian President Putin, former French President Sarkozy, former German President Wulff, Indian Prime Minister Modi, Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Sri Lankan President Sirisena, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, Uzbek President Mirziyoyev, former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, one of the economic core figures of President Trump, Japanese Emperor's father-in-law, French Louvre Museum director Henri Rouvoir, and British Van Gogh Museum director Leo Jensen, receiving high praise.  
        
1. In 1962, Fu Chunlin was born near Mount Sanqing on the birthday of Buddha. His family practiced medicine for generations. His father moved from Zhangshu, the ancestral medicine capital, to Linhu Town, Yushan, Jiangxi Province, to avoid Japanese invasion of China.
2. In 1979, he won the first place in the medical examination of the three regions of Yushan; In 1982, he studied calligraphy and painting under the guidance of Master Juzan, and also studied calligraphy with renowned calligraphers from Zhejiang such as Sha Menghai.
3. In 1986, he was specially appointed as a physician by Zhejiang Provincial Construction Engineering Hospital (now Zhejiang Xinhua Hospital) due to his "dual excellence in medical books"; 4. In 1988, he was accepted as a closed door disciple by Master Jingxin, the president of the World Buddhist Association and the abbot of Guangde Temple.
5. In 1992, the calligraphy work "The Book of Changes: Heavenly Health" was selected as one of the "Contemporary Chinese Masters".
6. In 1994, the calligraphy and painting work "Qinyuan Spring · Changsha" in cursive script was selected for the "National Calligraphy, Painting, Seal Carving, Photography Expert Works Invitation Exhibition".
7. In 1995, at the invitation of Japanese academic calligraphy and painting master Aoyama Sugiyama, he went to Kofu, Japan to study calligraphy and painting with Japanese friends.
8. In 1997, calligraphy and painting works were selected for the "Welcoming Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland in 1997 Calligraphy, Painting, Seal Carving, Photography Exhibition".
9. In 1998, the seal script "Da Zhuan" was selected as a classic of contemporary Chinese calligraphy.

Through his artistic works and charity auctions, Mr. Fu provided some assistance to children in poverty-stricken disaster areas in China in their studies and daily lives.
12. In 2005, invited by Seoul National University of the Arts in South Korea, I was a guest speaker to evaluate the differences in the development of art and culture between China and South Korea.
13. In 2006, invited by the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in Italy, he went to Italy for a personal exhibition of his works, which was highly praised by Italian friends.
14. In 2007, invited by the organizing committee of the Indian Art Fair, participated in the Indian Art Fair. Mr. Fu and his team went deep into Bodhgaya, the birthplace of the Buddha in India, for meditation.

In 2012, at the invitation of the Berlin University of the Arts in Germany, I embarked on a cultural exchange journey between the East and the West, visiting six Western European countries including Germany, Switzerland, and Luxembourg.
In 2013, participated in the Singapore World Arts and Culture Awards and was awarded the title of "New China Cultural Ambassador".
In 2014, classic series such as "Blossoming Blossoms and Wealth" and "Beautiful Mountains and Rivers" were produced and issued by the General Administration of Post of China.
In 2015, at the invitation of the St. Petersburg Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Russia, participated in the St. Petersburg Royal Academy of Fine Arts Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition and the Repin Academy of Fine Arts Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition.
In 2015, seal script, running script, and cursive script works were selected by the Ministry of Education as primary and secondary school textbooks and included in relevant courses.
In 2016, at the invitation of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, participated in the exhibition of the Czech National Academy of Painting.
In 2016, at the invitation of the World Buddhist Association and the World Vesak Festival Organizing Committee, he went to Sri Lanka to participate in the United Nations Vesak Festival Calligraphy and Painting Art Exhibition. His work "One Flavor of Tea Zen" was collected by Sri Lankan President Sirisena.
30. In 2016, the work "Big Seal Script" won the Lifetime Art Award of the Louvre in France. This award has aroused strong international repercussions. As the first Chinese to win this award, it was widely reported by Jiangxi News Network, CCTV News Network and other authoritative media.

In 2017, at the invitation of the World Buddhist Association, he participated in the World Buddhist Congress in Myanmar and was praised as having a "deep Buddhist connection" by the Myanmar Living Buddha, Elder Axin Niangsala, and was given the treatment of being ordained; The work 'China Myanmar Friendship' is cherished by Aung San Suu Kyi; In 2017, invited by the American Artists Association and the American International Exchange Group (AIE), participated in the 2017 American International Art Fair and won the Classical Art Gold Award.
In 2018, the work "Loyalty, Righteousness, Blessing, and Martial Arts" won the gold medal at the 19th Tokyo International Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition; The work was highly praised by experts in the Japanese calligraphy and painting industry, known as the "once-in-a-millennium masterpiece", and Mr. Fu Chunlin accepted an interview with Japan Central Television (NHK) as a result.
33. In 2018, I was invited by the University of California, Los Angeles (the world's top art university) to study classical and modern art at the University of California; Highly praised by the supervisor of the Academy of Fine Arts, awarded relevant degrees to visiting scholars.

On March 6, 2024, the People's Daily website reported the news that Mr. Fu Chunlin's calligraphy and painting works were hammered at Sotheby's for RMB 15 million. On March 31, 2024, the People's Daily once again reported the news that his works were hammered at Hong Kong for RMB 16.5 million and Sotheby's for RMB 35 million.
46. Appointed as a visiting professor by Tsinghua University in May 2024.
In January 2025, the University of Colorado in the United States awarded an honorary doctoral degree, which was signed by the Secretary of State, stamped by government courts, and signed by judges.
On May 27, 2025, won the Gold Award of the 2025 Andersen (International) Art Prize.
In July 2025, relevant national departments officially issued a document recognizing Fu Chunlin as a representative inheritor of national intangible cultural heritage projects (traditional art).
Received the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in July 2025 and attended the award ceremony in the UK from August 27th to 30th, 2025. This medal is one of the highest levels in the British honours system.
