Huang Yongyu
Huang Yongyu (August 9, 1924- June 13, 2023), pen names Huang Xingbin, Huangniu, and Niu Fuzi. Born in Changde County, Hunan Province (now Dingcheng District, Changde City), with ancestral roots in Fenghuang County, Hunan Province. Tujia ethnic group. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Painting, professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and former head of the Printmaking Department. Member of the China Artists Association. [13]
Huang Yongyu has received primary and incomplete junior high school education. Due to poor family background, he went out to make a living at the age of 12 and became a child laborer in small porcelain workshops in mountainous areas of Anhui and Fujian. Later, he moved to Shanghai, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Started publishing works at the age of 14, and later focused on printmaking for a period of time. His unique style of printmaking works is renowned both domestically and internationally. At the age of 16, he began to make a living by drawing with vivid colors and woodcuts. Formerly served as a porcelain factory worker, primary school teacher, middle school teacher, family education librarian, theater trainee art team member, newspaper editor, film screenwriter, professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, vice chairman of the China Artists Association, consultant of the 9th China Artists Association, and honorary member of the 10th China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
On June 4, 2020, Huang Yongyu ranked 17th on the 2020 Hurun China Art List with a total transaction volume of 37 million yuan in public auction market works in 2019. [2] On August 16, 2021, People's Literature Publishing House announced the pre-sale of Huang Yongyu's new book and congratulated him on his birthday (lunar calendar birthday).
On June 13, 2023 at 3:43 am, Huang Yongyu passed away.
