 Zhang Youhua (Chen Gong) began learning the palace style calligraphy at a young age. Later he studied the regular script of the four masters: Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, and Zhao Mengfu. He has received guidance from Wu Yuru, Wu Xiaoru and many other famous artists and calligraphers. In recent years, he has been helped by teachers such as Dong Yuming, the inheritor of the "Nangong style" calligraphy, to study the ancient official script "Bafen Shu", forming his own unique style of Nangong, Bafen Shu, and Wei stele. Afterwards, he learned the semi-cursive scripts of Zhang Jizhi, Zhao Zhiqian, Wang Xizhi, and Wang Xianzhi. Chen Gong is also skilled in figure painting with meticulous brushwork. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Planning Director of Guangling Pavilion Calligraphy and Painting Academy in Beijing; a member of the Nangong Stele Calligraphy Association of the Chinese Calligraphers' Association in Handan; a member of the Fan Art Association of Beijing City; and a registered teacher for the Chinese Calligraphers' Association's calligraphy grading examinations. Chen Gong is diligent in learning and research, having thoroughly studied ancient steles and inscriptions, and is praised by the art community as the "Master of Copying Stencils." He has participated in many domestic and international art exhibitions and has won awards. His works are mainly collected by cultural and artistic institutions and individuals at home and abroad. Chen Gong believes that as a Chinese person, one must write Chinese characters well.
