Personal Profile

Li Shuyi (Tian Qing, Wushu), graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Shanxi Normal University in 1994; graduated from the Advanced Research Class for Oil Painting Teaching Assistants at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 2002; founded Tian Qing Space in Songzhuang in 2005 and curated the first exhibition of the Songzhuang Art Festival at Tian Qing Space; established the Women Artists Association in 2006, creating the first female art exhibition space “Yiqun Nüwu” in both Songzhuang and 798. That same year, she curated a series of events titled “Listen with Your Eyes: Seven Compositions,” “Witch and Boyfriend,” “Delicious Beauty,” and “Magic Mirror Tells You: Wang Youling’s Solo Exhibition.” In 2007, she organized the founding of the Songzhuang Leyuan Art District. Since 2006, Li Shuyi has freely switched between the dual roles of artist and curator, independently organizing exhibitions featuring female artists, bringing long-overlooked and marginalized female art and female artists into focus. From that time onward, Li Shuyi also began collecting contemporary artworks. As an important early participant in Songzhuang’s artistic activities, on July 3, 2019, Li Shuyi quietly donated fifty works to the Contemporary Art Documentation Center.
