Ouyang Xinzhao
Personal Profile
Ouyang Xinzhao, born in 1962, is from Pingdingshan, Henan Province. He is a direct descendant of Ouyang Xiu and a student of Ouyang Zhongshi from the same family.
From childhood, he followed family teachings, practiced calligraphy with his grandfather, extensively studied ancient steles and rubbings, learned various styles, and had broad interests. He once studied at the Advanced Creation Class of the Beijing Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, earning high regard from renowned calligraphy masters. Influenced by his relative Ouyang Zhongshi, his calligraphic style gradually matured, showing the essence of Mi Fu and Wang Xizhi.
Years of diligent practice have enabled him to develop a unique rhythm in his characters. His work has received widespread praise, and he has come to understand that writing originates from the heart and flows through the hand—without intentional imitation or artificiality. He has participated in numerous painting and calligraphy exhibitions in Shanghai and surrounding areas. His works have been collected by China Post for inclusion in commemorative stamp albums.
In 1984, his work won an Honorable Mention in the Second National Fan Painting Competition. It was also selected for the Seventh National Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition, and he earned first prize in the inaugural Daoist Culture High-Level Summit Conference’s “Dushan Forum” Calligraphy and Painting Competition!
To carry forward cultural heritage and promote its development, under the organization of the Calligraphy Association, he has repeatedly delivered paintings and calligraphy to communities, nursing homes, schools, and military-civilian activities promoting the Chinese Dream. Such events have become a beautiful sight in Pingdingshan District, Henan Province. By integrating art into daily life, he makes life more beautiful. With unwavering dedication, he continues on this path—never forgetting his original aspirations, striving hard, seizing every moment, and never wasting youth!
