Wang Yaling, born in 1954 in Beijing; graduated from the French Department of the Foreign Languages Faculty at Beijing University in 1978. She once worked as a part-time correspondent for the News Department of Beijing Radio Station; a part-time correspondent for the News Department of China Business Daily; a correspondent for the Beijing Grain Journal; a reporter for the Beijing Grain Journal; Deputy Director of the Reporter Station of Beijing Grain Report's Feed Company. She also served as a reporter and editor for Beijing Feed Journal; a correspondent for the Beijing Private and Individual Business Newspaper. She has been a French translator and an enterprise management cadre, serving as the Vice Secretary-General of the Economic Association and the Ideological and Political Work Association of the Beijing Grain Bureau's Feed Company. Currently, she is the President of the Beijing Hainai Bai Chuan Painting and Calligraphy Society; a calligrapher at the Beijing Jin Zheng De Painting and Calligraphy Academy; a contracted calligraphy artist at the Confucius Art Museum; a member of the Beijing Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Association; a member of the Fengtai District Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Research Association of Beijing; a member of the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Dictionary Fine Arts College; and a National First-Class Calligraphy Master.
She developed an early interest in calligraphy due to her father's influence. Since 2014, she has studied calligraphy under the renowned Chinese calligrapher Han Shanlin. In 2017, she thoroughly read the "Comprehensive Dictionary of Running Script" and took detailed notes. She deeply admires Wang Xizhi, the "Sage of Calligraphy," and his running script style. Her works have been published in the Chinese Artists Newspaper and the Chinese Elderly Art Journal; participated in city-level exhibitions on health preservation and the 70th anniversary of the Anti-Japanese War; and joined the community Spring Festival couplets and lucky characters activities organized by the Heyi Calligraphy Association and Dongsan Community for six consecutive years.
In June 2016, her work "Hui Feng He Chang" was published in the Chinese Artists Newspaper; in October of the same year, a poem praising the Heyi Calligraphy Association was featured in the Chinese Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Art Journal.
In 2017, "Hui Feng He Chang" was published in the Chinese Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Art Journal.
In June 2018, she participated in the Second National Painting and Calligraphy Competition, which attracted over 4,800 artists and enthusiasts. She won the Outstanding Calligraphy Award. In December of the same year, she joined the "70 Years of Contemporary Art World—70 Painters and Calligraphers" event organized by Huayi Media, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Culture, and contributed 27 pieces of calligraphy celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China into a 20-page publication. This book received high praise from CCTV’s renowned art critic Shi Feng. To promote traditional Chinese culture, all copies of this calligraphy album were freely distributed to residents in the Heyi area for study.
On July 16, 2019, she participated in a painting and calligraphy exhibition held in Budapest, Hungary’s capital, between China and Hungary. The poem “Praise for Sino-Hungarian Friendship,” written by her, was exhibited there. Due to the high artistic quality and academic level of her work, she made outstanding contributions to Sino-European cultural exchange and promotion. After careful deliberation, the organizing committee of the Sino-European Cultural Exchange Exhibition in Hungary awarded Wang Yaling the title of “Cultural Envoy for Sino-Hungarian Diplomatic Relations.”
In December 2019, she participated in the national grand exhibition celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, jointly organized by the Central Asian Economic Union Center and the Chinese Poetry and Wine Culture Association. Over 1,100 participants joined this event nationwide, and Wang Yaling won the Outstanding Calligraphy Award.
In 2019, multiple calligraphy works by Wang Yaling were published on the Art Encyclopedia website; simultaneously, she was reported by ten media outlets (with the headline: “Modern Chinese Calligraphy Artist Wang Yaling”).
On February 15, 2020, she was specially invited to participate in the activity “United as One, Ink Expresses Love – Artists in Action,” writing nine calligraphy pieces about fighting the epidemic, which were published on four major online media platforms: Phoenix News, Sohu, Yidian Zixun, and NetEase.
On March 9, 2020, she was specially invited to join the “Contemporary Art Masters Focus on the Two Sessions” event organized by the Ministry of Culture’s media outlet, with ten calligraphy pieces published across seven media platforms (including Finance Times, Dazhong News, Zhonglian News Report, Toutiao, China.com, Yidian Zixun, and NetEase).
On March 20, 2020, she participated in the “Joint Fight Against Epidemic, Healthy Good Luck” themed calligraphy and painting exhibition organized by the Zhongguancun Digital Media, which was reported online.
On April 20, 2020, she entered the National Database of Professional Calligraphy and Painting Practitioners. That same month, she joined the Hubei Provincial Library-organized event commemorating the白衣天使 (white-coated angels), promoting the fight against the epidemic, and praising the leadership of the Communist Party of China through couplets.
On April 21, 2020, she participated in the donation of paintings and calligraphy to ten Chinese embassies organized by Huayi Media, a subordinate unit of the Ministry of Culture.
On June 9, 2020, she joined the Beijing Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Association’s event donating calligraphy and paintings to medical personnel in Beijing, contributing five calligraphy pieces.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, she has participated in numerous online exhibitions of paintings and calligraphy related to the fight against the epidemic organized by the Chinese Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Research Association, the Beijing Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Association, the Fengtai District Elderly Painting and Calligraphy Research Association, the Heyi Calligraphy Association, and the Beijing Hainai Bai Chuan Painting and Calligraphy Society.
On July 1, 2020, she was awarded the title of “Leading Figure in Contemporary Art” by the Guoli Artists Network.
