Wang XiuHuan, female, born in 1962 in Beijing, has loved painting since childhood. She graduated from the Textile and Clothing Department of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts (now the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University) and studied under the renowned palace-style plum blossom painter Gao Chunzhen, while also seeking guidance from the famous landscape painter Liang YiYong in Beijing. For 20 years, she worked at the Beijing Carpet Research Institute as a professional carpet pattern designer, frequently winning awards in domestic and international pattern design competitions. She is a member of the Beijing Jincheng Painting and Calligraphy Academy, member of the Jing-Jin School Painting Research Committee,member of the Chinese Famous Artists and Masters Research Committee, member of the China Minority Art Promotion Association, member of the Hushé Painting Society, member of the China Folk Art Association,specializing in small freehand flower-and-bird and landscape paintings.In recent years, she has devoted herself to studying traditional Chinese culture—particularly gourd iron-etching art—infusing the auspicious symbolism and exquisite forms of gourds with traditional Chinese auspicious patterns. Her lines are fluid, her shapes elegant, and her gradations natural, forming a unique artistic style. Her works have participated in numerous traditional folk art exhibitions and are deeply loved and collected by gourd enthusiasts. Meanwhile, she continues to diligently explore painting, specializing in the Four Gentlemen—plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums—as well as lotus and peonies. Many of her works have been exhibited in art shows andparticipated in the online Chinese calligraphy and painting exhibition dedicated to fighting against the epidemic.
Artistic Achievements:
1. Won second prize in the National Carpet Pattern Competition in 1985;
2. In 1989, the pattern design No. 79031, selected by Beijing Carpet Import and Export Company, won the "Gan Dou Award" at the 4th Plevier Pattern Competition in Japan;
3. In 1993, the carpet pattern No. 920156 was chosen as an outstanding pattern for the Youth Creative Design Competition organized by Beijing City Craftsmanship and Art Products Company;
4. In 1995, two works titled “Minority Ethnic Patterns” were collected as teaching materials by the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts;
5. The work “Spring” received the Honorary Award at the International Art Photography Exhibition “Love for the Western Regions” in 2000;
6. The gourd iron-etching work “Eight Auspicious Symbols” won the Excellent Award at the 4th China Gourd Competition in 2017;
7. The meticulous flower-and-bird painting “Spring” participated in the 96th Anniversary Party of the Communist Party of China Art Exhibition hosted by the China Minority Art Promotion Association in 2017.
