Hong Xuguang, styled Lai Guang, was born in Wende, Shandong Province, a family with a long tradition of scholarly pursuits and a passion for collecting.
A returning overseas artist, he specializes in Chinese ink abstract painting, calligraphy, and sculpture. His foundation in Chinese painting and calligraphy is solid, having been taught by mentors such as Shao Shenglang and Han Tianheng, and guided by masters like Tang Wenxuan and Zhou Shaohua.

He entered the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s to specialize in Chinese painting.

In the 1990s, he studied abroad in Singapore, Australia, and Germany for eight years, exploring Western art and culture, focusing on modern composition. He integrated Eastern and Western aesthetics, emphasizing the exploration of Chinese ink abstract painting. During this period, he received recognition and academic guidance from masters such as Wu Guanzhong, Ding Shaoguang, Chen Yifei, Zhu Dequn, and Zhou Shaohua.

In late 2009, he settled in Beijing. His works are collected by art institutions and professionals in China, the United States, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and other countries.

1998–2000, studied at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, specializing in modern composition. His professor was the renowned European architect Mr. Schmidt.
1993–1998, worked in Singapore as a visiting scholar.
Creative Director at Pan-American Advertising in Singapore; studied Western art and culture at LASALLE College of the Arts in Australia.
1983 Graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, where he received instruction from teachers such as Tang Wenxuan and Zhou Shaohua.
1983–1993, Wuhan Textile Institute.
Founded the “Textile Design Major,” which later evolved into today’s “Fashion Design Major.” He trained the first generation of textile designers for Pufang, the largest textile base in Hubei Province.
1980 Studied under the famous calligrapher and seal carver Han Tianheng, learning calligraphy and seal carving.
1977 Studied under Shao Shenglang, a disciple of Li Kexing, a renowned painter and calligrapher from Hubei. Benefiting from a master’s guidance, he developed strong drawing skills and is considered a second-generation disciple of Li Kexing.

Later, his sketch and quick-drawing works were included in university textbooks and selected for major domestic and international exhibitions.
