Yang Mohan, whose real name is Yang Guitian, courtesy name Mohan, pseudonym Yifang Shuren, and also known as Hanqiu, graduated from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently a member of the China Artists Association; a council member of the China Huaxia Wanlihang Calligraphy and Painting Association; a member of the Beijing Dongcheng District Artists Association; and the founder of Beijing Guyun Danqing Art Studio. His primary painting style focuses on Chinese figure painting, with additional works in oil portraits and landscapes.
His main themes center around Mao Zedong, the great leader of the Chinese people, and other national and international leaders. The Chinese paintings he creates adopt a blend of Eastern and Western techniques, emphasizing realistic representation as their core feature, with a strong focus on capturing the physical form and spiritual essence of the figures, striving for both appearance and spirit to be vivid and authentic. His artistic style draws inspiration and integration from renowned figure painters such as Zhou Sicong and Yao Youdu.
His works have been collected by Mao XinYu, the grandson of Chairman Mao; the President of Kazakhstan; the Beijing Song Qingling Memorial Hall; Liu Siqi, the wife of Mao Anying; People's Daily Online; the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Museum; and Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University, among others, both domestically and internationally. His artworks have participated in numerous exhibitions and auctions, and have been published in various domestic newspapers, magazines, and online platforms, receiving widespread attention and acclaim. In 2013, he won a silver award at the National Commemorative Exhibition marking the 120th anniversary of Chairman Mao’s birth; in 2014, he received the Grand Prize at the "Rule of Law China" National Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition; in 2015, he earned an Outstanding Award at the Third National Anti-Corruption Cultural Art Exhibition; and in 2018, he was awarded a prize at the "Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire" Jinggangshan National Art Exhibition.
On February 24, 2017, he was invited by People's Daily Online for a special interview titled: “The Radiance of Humanity in Brushstrokes — Yang Mohan’s Reflections on Creating Red Figure Paintings.”
