Qiu Yuqiang
Autumn (Qiu Yuqiang), a grassroots portrait cartoonist. He has loved drawing since childhood. He worked as a propaganda officer in the factory union. In 1985, he was selected by his unit to study film poster design at the Beijing Film Academy, where he learned foundational skills under the guidance of master artist Qian Shaowu. He took up painting again at age 52 after stepping away from business. A poetry enthusiast and outdoor cycling lover, I have cycled along the Sichuan-Tibet 318 Highway, the route from Lop Nur to Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang, and the Silk Road.

My works have been published multiple times in the People’s Daily Supplement “Satire & Humor” Cartoon Newspaper and other newspapers, magazines, and online media. I won first prize twice in the 12th and 18th National “Manga Pen Blossoms” Portrait Cartoon Competition. In June 2018, I received an award at the National Exhibition of 100 Influential Cartoonists, with my work collected. In July 2019, I won second prize at the Jiangxi Provincial Anti-Drug Cartoon Exhibition. In January 2020, I earned second prize at the Sixth Jiangxi Province Cartoon Exhibition. In May 2020, I received the World Cartoon Union Artist Award.

My cartoons have also entered schools and exhibition halls. The Pingxiang Attached Primary School in our city hung my model portraits in the corridor for students to learn from. My drawings about the origins of Anyuan and Pingxiang, as well as traditional crafts like the “Three Seams Nine Tradesmen Eighteen Craftsmen,” are now preserved in the Anyuan Memory Hall.
Old Aunt Gong Quanzen once inscribed for Qiu Yuqiang: “Thoughts lie within cartoons,” which is the greatest encouragement for Autumn. Cartoons contain philosophy and humor—art born of wisdom. The road is difficult yet joyful—I will keep going forward. 取消
