Wang Chunlin, born in 1959, is a native of Beijing. In 1978, he began studying under the guidance of Master Zhuoran, and has since dedicated himself to learning and research in Chinese painting, receiving instruction from many renowned masters. He specializes in landscapes, ink tigers, ink lions, and pine trees. His works have been exhibited both domestically and internationally, with some pieces collected by national institutions and friends overseas.
Personal Honors
In 1990, his work "Ode to the Green Pine" was featured in an exhibition in Beijing and Hong Kong, and was collected by the China Association for Democracy and Construction. "The Tiger Descending the Mountain" and "Heavenly Inquiry" were collected by Mr. Lin Jingcheng,会长 (President) of the International Friendship Association of Funabashi City, Japan, and a collector. "Ink Tiger" was exhibited at the Labor People's Cultural Palace and collected by a German friend.
In 1992, "Ink Tiger" was collected by the Xu Beihong Memorial Hall in Yangshuo.
In 1994, "Autumn High on the Jialing River" was included in Volume 2, page 92 of the "Collection of Paintings and Calligraphy Preserved in Zhongnanhai," commemorating the 100th anniversary of Chairman Mao Zedong’s birth (organized jointly by Zhongnanhai and the China Artists Association). The piece was collected by Zhongnanhai.
In 1996, "Joyful Encounter with a Mighty General" was collected by the Beijing Military Region Command Department.
In 1997, "Ink Tiger" was collected by the Logistics Department of the People’s Liberation Army. "Mountain Dwelling" was included in the "Collection of Masterpieces by Contemporary Chinese Artists." It was also listed in the "World Who's Who"—China Volume (page 943).
In February 1998, invited by the Beijing Garrison Foreign Affairs Performance Group, he painted for the troops, and the event was covered as a special feature by CCTV.
In March 1998, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Premier Zhou Enlai’s birth, his work "High Autumn Landscape" was included in the book "Remembering," published by Xiyuan Press, and collected by Zhongnanhai.
In 1999, "Hillside Village" was selected for inclusion in the "Selected Works of Famous Chinese Calligraphers and Painters." "Mountain Dwelling" was included in the "Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Collection."
In 2000, during a New Year visit to retired Red Army soldiers, he joined artists Yang Xuanting and Hou Jinming to paint, and the event was featured in a special report on CCTV’s “Sunset Red.” Landscapes "Autumn Sky, Sparse Clouds, Hillside Villages" and "High Sky, Sparse Clouds" were included in the large-scale album "Chinese Ink and Brush Art Masters’ Works Exhibition," edited by the People’s Daily Publishing House. "Mountain Dwelling" was included in the "Oriental Figures" art volume. "Mountains Held in Heart, Pride in Wind" was selected for the new talent exhibition organized by the Beijing branch of the China Artists Association. "Clear Beauty of Mountain Scenery, Vague Yet Present" and "Dry Wind in Autumn, Moisture Holding Spring Rain" were included in the "Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Collection." "Deep in the Mountains" and "Secluded Life in the Forest, Tranquility in the Heart" were included in the "Encyclopedia of Poets, Calligraphers, and Painters."
In 2002, "Magnificent Hua Yue" was included in the large-scale album "Hot Land of China." "Long Autumn Mountains Written Vertically and Horizontally, Snow Melted, Spring Comes After Rain" was included in the "Collection of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Works for Collection."
In 2003, "Pasturing in the Taihang Mountains" and "After Rain, the Mountain Turns Green" were included in the "Collection of Contemporary Famous Artists’ Masterpieces." "Side Peaks Bathed in Sunset" was included in the "Chronicle of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Artists—Millennium Grand Art History." A fine collection of contemporary realist painters titled "Wang Chunlin’s Landscape Paintings" was published. "Tiger Steps West of Guan" and "Unstoppable Advance" (Ink Tiger) were included in the "Collection of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters’ Works."
In 2004, he participated in the monumental exhibition commemorating Comrade Deng Xiaoping’s centenary birthday; his "Ink Tiger" received an Outstanding Award.
In 2005, he was awarded the title of "100 Famous Chinese Calligraphers and Painters" by the China Calligraphers and Painters Association. "Ink Tiger: Observing the World" was included in the "Contemporary Chinese Artists." "Landscape" and "Ink Tiger" were included in the "Artists of the Century," published by China Art Publishing House.
In 2008, he was invited to participate in an art exhibition in Singapore and Malaysia. The Malaysian newspaper "China News" published his works "Landscape" and "Ink Tiger" on March 26, along with an exclusive interview.
In 2010, his works "Snow Melts, Green Pines Thrive" and "Ode to the Green Pine" were collected by Hanlinzhai Art Museum.
In 2012, Wang Chunlin’s works were featured in a special section in the magazine "Corporate Culture."
