       Gu Haotao, styled Danqing, known as the Master of Wuhu Hall, is a renowned contemporary animal painter. He is currently a member of the Chinese Academy of National Painting, a council member of the Institute of Bird-and-Flower Painting at the Chinese Academy of National Painting, a member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, vice president of the Great Wall Academy of Painting, and a member of the Chinese Ink Wash Painting Society. He also serves as deputy director of the Committee on Bird-and-Flower Painting at Jinghua Art Museum. One of China's foremost contemporary tiger painters, he is among the top [30] painters with the greatest academic value and market potential today, and one of the [50] most collectible and trustworthy bird-and-flower painters.
       His works have been repeatedly selected for national exhibitions hosted by the China Artists Association and have won numerous awards. He has held solo exhibitions multiple times both domestically and internationally; his works are collected in countries such as the United States, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Singapore, and many pieces have been presented as state gifts to leaders of various nations. His artworks are held in museums, art galleries, by the China Artists Association, corporate groups, and overseas collectors. In May 2006, he was received by former Vice Premier of the State Council, Gu Mu. In 2008, he was honored with the titles “Master of National Gift Art of New China,” “Master of Chinese Artistic Heritage,” and “Special Artist for National Gift Art.”
       He employs a combination of meticulous and freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese painting to depict animals, especially tigers. His art is profoundly influenced by philosophical thought, traditional culture, and the principles of Chinese ink painting. His artistic language is unique, his personal style stands out distinctly, and he has forged an original path. His style is concise, sincere, natural, unrestrained, robust, solemn, and imbued with vitality, spirit, and essence. His brushwork flows freely, embracing simplicity, ruggedness, maturity, rawness, wildness, and boldness—rejecting prettiness, flattery, and sweetness, he has established his own distinctive aesthetic.
