To study calligraphy and ink painting, one must be profoundly influenced by scholarly cultivation. If a person lacks deep cultural refinement and spiritual elevation, his calligraphic works will hardly reach the highest artistic level! Liu Shizeng’s numerous calligraphic works are firmly grounded in his personal cultural cultivation. His scholarship not only endows his works with an exceptionally high cultural atmosphere but also brings a gentle, scholarly aura to the calligraphy world! Liu Shizeng’s calligraphy naturally demonstrates profound skill: his brushwork flows neither hurriedly nor stagnantly, powerful yet steady; the lines undulate gracefully—sometimes rugged and ancient, sometimes soft and harmonious—and the overall composition is naturally expansive and majestically unified. Viewing his works feels like standing before ancient steles, as if the fragrance of books fills the air!
