Xu Dashuang
Personal Profile

Xu Dashuang, a contemporary master of calligraphy and painting, has a broad range of artistic interests, with a primary focus on calligraphy, particularly running and cursive script. His style is vigorous, elegant, fluid, and profoundly refined. He has led multiple calligraphy and painting delegations to visit countries and regions such as Japan, South Korea, Russia, and France, where his calligraphy works have been exhibited.
His calligraphy embodies a unique fusion of talent, boldness, and literary grace, possessing a depth revealed by the history of calligraphy, especially evident in his cursive script creations. Xu Dashuang’s cursive script is rooted in the Ming and Qing dynasties, drawing significant inspiration from Xu Wei’s wild cursive style, thus emphasizing the beauty of unrestrained, rugged exuberance. In this regard, he consciously restrains the line techniques of the “Wang” tradition, which he has mastered, and instead strives for texture and tension in his brushwork, elevating the energy and momentum of cursive script to a new height.
