Personal Profile

Han Wengang, a renowned Chinese painter and calligrapher, was born in Fuyang, Anhui. He graduated from the Anhui Vocational School of Arts and Crafts and the Department of Chinese Painting at the Anhui Fuyang Normal University. Born into a family with a scholarly tradition, he has been passionate about painting and calligraphy since childhood (his father Han Zilin is a famous master of cursive and large cursive script, and his works can be searched on Baidu). For many years, he has risen early and persisted without ceasing, devoting all his energy and time to the study of painting and calligraphy. He has conducted in-depth research and copying on "Han Li", "E Wang", "Yan, Ou, Liu, Zhao" stele scripts and calligraphy theories. He believes that "the great achievements of an artist are closely related to the amount of knowledge," so he constantly learns and explores. He has been invited multiple times to hold individual exhibitions and group exhibitions at home and abroad, as well as participate in domestic and international calligraphy and painting competitions and win awards. Han Wengang currently serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Fuyang Chamber of Commerce in Wenzhou, member of the Anhui Calligraphers Association, member of the Zhejiang Calligraphers Association, member of the Wenzhou Calligraphers Association, member of the Longwan District Calligraphers Association in Wenzhou, member of the China Calligraphers Association, member of the China Artists Association, and the founder and legal representative of the Haicheng and Yongzhong branches of Wenzhou Hangu Paint Training Co., Ltd. The works of Han Wengang mainly focus on promoting benevolence, righteousness, morality, and advocating virtue and kindness as artistic pursuits. Master Han Wengang received early family education, and after graduating from the art college, he further studied the techniques and methods of many famous painters and calligraphers, with profound skills. He emphasizes absorbing the strengths of various schools and generations, inheriting the essence while surpassing it. Whether in the conceptualization of themes or the composition and artistic conception, he can accept diverse influences, take the best of each, and make up for his own shortcomings. As the saying goes, "the character of the person is reflected in the brushwork, and the painting reflects the person." He is cheerful, bold, and unrestrained, speaks humorously, and is simple, kind, and friendly. Therefore, his works are free-spirited, rigorous in rules, heavy yet not lacking in elegance, lively yet not losing solemnity, showing individuality, stability, innovation, and practicality. He has been obsessed with the cause of painting and calligraphy throughout his life, is naturally studious, has a strong sense of time, and values every minute and second. It is only through decades of persistence that he has achieved today's small success. His most skilled traditional Chinese paintings include landscapes, peonies, shrimps, lotus flowers, and plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums. His most skilled calligraphy includes clerical script, seal script, running script, regular script, and exaggerated variant calligraphy. In terms of teaching, he is proficient in sketching, quick drawing, watercolor, oil painting, paper cutting, and engraving. All of these are because of the solid foundation he built in daily teaching and art college, which also laid a firm foundation for later traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. He joined the China Calligraphers Association in 2004; in 2005, he was awarded the title of "Contemporary Calligraphy Art Celebrity"; in 2007, he won the First Prize for Outstanding Tutor in the 6th "Little Calligrapher Cup" National Children's Calligraphy and Painting Competition; in 2008, he won the First Prize for Outstanding Tutor in the First "Jinsha Cup" National Youth Calligraphy and Painting Competition; in 2010, he was awarded the title of "First-Class Painter of the China Calligraphers Association". That same year, he was specially awarded the title of "Influential Figure in Chinese Art 2010" for his great contributions to Chinese art activities. In 2011, his work won the gold prize in "Chinese Masters' Excellent Works" and was included in the book, and he was specially awarded the title of "Chinese and Foreign Traditional Chinese Painting Artist". The same year, his ink painting work won the gold prize in the first "Xizhi Award" Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In 2012, he won the first prize in the calligraphy category in the 8th "Babei Cup" National Literature and Art Competition in Nanchang, China. In 2013, his calligraphy work "Small Regular Script Vertical Scroll" won the first prize. In 2014, his calligraphy work won the first prize in the first "Moral and Artistic Excellence Cup" National Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition titled "National Soul, Chinese Dream". That same year, he was awarded the title of "Top 100 Influential Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Figures in China". In 2017, he was specially awarded the title of "Outstanding Seal Carver" in the National Seal Carving Art Competition. That same year, his long scroll masterpiece "Flowers Bloom in Prosperity" peony painting was permanently collected by the Hong Kong Museum and was awarded the title of "Outstanding Patriotic Person of China and Foreign Countries". That same year, he was awarded the "Special Tutor Award" in the "Double Dragon Cup" National Children's Calligraphy and Painting Competition. That same year, he was awarded the qualification title of "Ten Outstanding Art Educators in China" for outstanding achievements in the field of national calligraphy and painting education. That same year, in the 12th National Children's Calligraphy, Painting, and Engraving Works Competition, he was evaluated as the "First Prize for National Youth Art Education Achievements" due to his patient and careful guidance of students and their outstanding creations. In 2019, Wenzhou Hangu Painting Training Co., Ltd. (formerly known as Wenzhou Hangu Calligraphy and Painting Training Department) was awarded the title of "China's Top 100 Art Education Places" for its outstanding achievements in the education field.
