Li Pingsheng
Personal Profile
Li Pingsheng, styled Yanghong, also known as Jingu, is the master of Shoushan Hall. Born in 1960 in Xiaoxian, Anhui, China, known as the hometown of Chinese painting. He has successively studied under renowned painters Zhuoran and Mao Yufang from the Ministry of Culture. Later he further studied at the Chinese Academy of Art. He is skilled in painting bamboo, grapes, lotus, and shrimp, especially excelling in blue-green landscape paintings.
Now he is a special supply artist for state gifts, a senior art specialist, a special correspondent painter for Tianxia Times, a special contributor painter for China News Magazine, vice president of the painting and calligraphy academy of American LuLu Publishing House, an executive member of the China National Artists Association, and a member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association.
The paintings by Pingsheng penetrate the paper with strength, and the soul lies within the painting. With a complete spirit and sufficient energy, his brushwork highlights the nature of writing, free and easy, well controlled, "not chaotic when many, not sparse when few", drawing the essence of the styles of Shi Tao, Eight Banners, and Xu Wei. His works "bamboo in the wind" and "bamboo in the rain" are particularly spontaneous, smooth, and naturally unique. His paintings are more wild than refined, more expressive than figurative, more linear than colored, more brush-based than ink-based, more vital than rhythmic, more grand than delicate, and more comprehensive than local. He has a bamboo in his mind and a meaning before the brush. Sometimes the ink is splashed and moist, sometimes the brush has not reached but the energy has already swallowed it. No matter how freely he expresses his emotions and directly conveys his thoughts, he always manages to grasp the form and spirit as well as the rules. The picture presents a strong momentum and dynamism, giving people a sense of spiritual pleasure and satisfaction of aesthetic expectations. Pingsheng sails on the sea of art and leaps onto the paper, making him one of the most promising artists for collection today.
Pingsheng is one of the earliest representative figures in the art world of Xiaoxian, the hometown of Chinese painting. His works have participated in many auctions and domestic and international exhibitions. His bamboo paintings are fresh and vigorous, with a grand atmosphere.
In addition, Pingsheng's paintings of lotus, grapes, and shrimp are fresh and natural, revealing leisure and elegance. From the comprehensive factors such as the intention, planning, brushwork, structure, layout, ink application, and color, we can experience the relationship between the interaction of comprehensive factors and the expression of the charm of clear water and ink. From learning from nature, learning from the heart, to the integration of self and nature, transcendence of self, abandoning self, and forgetting self, he demonstrates "the strings of heaven and earth of creation, highlighting the soul of all things."
