Personal Profile
Li Xianjun, artistic name Bashan Ren, male, born in September 1972, native of Sichuan Wanyuan.
Graduated from university in 1994 and has been teaching at Sichuan Institute of Technology for Vocational Technicians ever since, now residing in Wenjiang District, Chengdu City.
With a science and engineering background, he devotes his spare time to literary and artistic pursuits, especially calligraphy. During his university years, he participated in various national calligraphy competitions and won multiple awards. In 2001, he became a member of the Chengdu Calligraphers Association.
After starting work, he systematically copied classical Chinese calligraphy masterpieces in his spare time. His main focus is on running script (xingshu) and cursive script (caoshu), while also studying Han and Wei dynasty stone inscriptions, as well as oracle bone script, bronze inscription script, and Stone Drum inscriptions. In running script, he began with the Song masters Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Mi Fu, and Cai Xiang, progressed to Li Yong of the Tang dynasty, and ultimately traced back to Wang Xizhi. In cursive script, beginning with modern masters Yu Youren and Lin Sanzhi, he studied backward through Ming dynasty's Wang Duo and Dong Qichang, then further back to Huang Tingjian of the Song, and finally to Tang dynasty masters Huaisu, Zhang Xu, Sun Guoting, ultimately returning to their source—Wang Xizhi.
Personally, I believe technique is merely foundational; humanistic character and cultural depth are the soul of calligraphy. Therefore, I have broadly explored disciplines such as literature, history, philosophy, and aesthetics, drawing inspiration from diverse sources, aiming to enrich my calligraphy with scholarly cultivation.
In my spare time, I write poetry, expressing personal insights and emotions through writing, and using this medium for sincere communication with others. Brush and ink should follow the times, but also bear the responsibility of recording our era. I will continue striving to create more and better works, dedicating them to this great age, and contributing my modest efforts to the inheritance and development of Chinese culture.
