Wang Shiwang, born in 1963, is from Jianli, Hubei. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Hubei University. He is a member of the Hubei Calligraphers Association, Jingzhou Calligraphers Association, Jianli County Calligraphers Association, and a member of the Gudao Feng Calligraphy Society. He was introduced to calligraphy through family instruction from an early age and learned writing and character recognition simultaneously. Since the age of twenty, he has rigorously practiced Ouyang Xun’s style for over two decades, later shifting his focus to Yan Zhenqing’s style, which he continues to study today. During this time, he has also explored clerical script, Wei stele script, and running script. Currently, his primary focus is on Yan-style regular script. In 1988, he won an award in the National Hard-Pen Calligraphy Competition and was consequently admitted as an honorary member of the Anhui Province Hard-Pen Calligraphers Association; In 1989, his calligraphy work received the third prize in the “1989 Wuhan University Campus Cultural Festival”; In 1995, he studied at the China Calligraphy and Painting Correspondence University; In 2005, his calligraphy work was exhibited in the “Fenghuo Technology Cup” National Calligraphy and Seal Carving Competition; In 2005, his calligraphy work was exhibited in the “First Hubei Provincial Entrepreneurs Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition”; In May 2006, he completed a training course organized by the Hubei Calligraphers Association; In 2007, his calligraphy work was exhibited in the “First Hubei Provincial Youth Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition”; In 2008, his calligraphy work was selected for the “China·Ruicheng First Yongle Palace International Calligraphy and Painting Art Festival”; In 2008, his brush calligraphy work won the second prize in the “Fifth New Century National Teachers’ Three-Style Calligraphy Competition”; In 2010, his calligraphy work was exhibited in the “Hubei Provincial Township Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition”; In 2012, he won the gold medal in the “Jingzhou Qu Yuan Cup Calligraphy Competition”; In March 2013, he won the “First Prize for Calligraphy Creation” in the “Fourth National Poetry, Calligraphy, Painting, and Seal Cutting Competition: Plum Blossoms Herald Spring”; In 2016, he was selected for the Eighth Hubei Provincial Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition; In December 2016, in the Second Hubei Provincial Primary and Secondary School Teachers and Students Calligraphy Competition, he won the second prize in both the teacher category hard-pen calligraphy and the teacher category soft-pen calligraphy categories. In April 2017, he won the second prize in the First National “Dao De Jing” Calligraphy On-Site Competition and the second prize in the Fourth National Teachers’ On-Site Calligraphy Evaluation Competition. In August 2017, in the Third Hubei Provincial Primary and Secondary School Teachers and Students Calligraphy Competition, he won the second prize in brush calligraphy and the first prize in hard-pen calligraphy.
