Zhang Guanghe
Personal Profile
Zhang Guanghe has been passionate about Chinese calligraphy since childhood. In his early years, he meticulously copied classical steles and rubbings by the "Two Wangs" and Zhao Mengfu, and during his youth, he became a disciple of the veteran calligrapher Zhou Huaqin, thereby laying a solid foundation for his calligraphic skills. Over nearly 30 years of calligraphic creation, Zhang Guanghe's works have been collected by renowned professional calligraphy institutions both domestically and internationally, including the China Calligraphers Association and the Hubei Provincial Calligraphers Association. Mainstream media outlets such as Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily Online, and China News Service have reported on and introduced his calligraphic art and his contributions to public welfare calligraphy initiatives.
Long immersed in the artistic techniques of Chinese calligraphy masters across dynasties, Zhang Guanghe has developed a unique creative style characterized by "free and uninhibited brushwork, fluid and soothing expression, and strong, forceful strokes." In his recent works such as "The Benevolent Live Long" and "Heaven Moves Vigorously; the Noble Person Strives Unceasingly," one can not only sense a vibrant contemporary spirit but also appreciate the "steady and dignified" character embodied in his pieces.
Calligraphy is a cultural treasure of the Chinese nation, shining uniquely in the global treasury of art and culture. Zhang Guanghe believes that the lines in Chinese calligraphy are the most dynamic element in its formal beauty and the fundamental medium of its expression; creation requires absorbing the "rich and profound nourishment" found within Chinese calligraphic art. For this reason, Zhang Guanghe skillfully and masterfully expresses the "compositional relationships between lines," faithfully inheriting the beauty of lines in Chinese calligraphy, thus forming a vital spiritual bridge between his art and its viewers.
In Zhang Guanghe’s works, one often perceives an inherent artistic "beauty" emerging between form and formlessness, within and beyond imagery, and in structure and composition. His deliberate use of "negative space" in calligraphic creation reflects his profound insights into life and his cultivated artistic sensibility. Quietly appreciating Zhang Guanghe’s works, one seems to see the graceful posture of calligraphy, its undulating rhythm, and the joyful steps of dancers rising and falling upon a stage—a profound emotion invisible to the eyes yet deeply felt by the soul.
