Liu Guoyuan, male, Han ethnicity, courtesy name Yuan Zeng, studio name Ximo Studio, was born in 1944 in Kaifeng City, with a junior college education; enrolled in Zhengzhou Postal and Telecommunications College in 1960. Since childhood, he has been deeply passionate about calligraphy and painting, influenced by his ancestors, beginning his practice by copying Liu Gongquan’s “Xuanmi Pagoda” stele; after entering school and starting work, he persisted in continuous practice, studying the ten famous running script models including those of the Two Wangs, Yan Zhenqing, Su Shi, and Mi Fu; he particularly enjoys copying Huaisu’s “Self-Narrative Scroll,” Zhiyong’s “Thousand Character Classic in Regular and Cursive Scripts,” and Sun Guoting’s “Treatise on Calligraphy” and other renowned masterpieces; in traditional Chinese painting, he has copied dozens of works by Ni Zan, Shen Zhou, Gong Xian, Fan Kuan, Lu Yanshao, and others, absorbing widely from diverse sources and never ceasing his brushwork. His calligraphy excels in running and cursive scripts, while his paintings focus primarily on landscapes. After retirement, he studied at Luoyang Retirees’ University (formerly the Municipal Elderly University), in the Calligraphy Department, specializing in running, cursive, clerical, and regular scripts for five years of multidisciplinary study, graduating with abundant gains.
