Meng Weiquan, from Zhengzhou City, is a member of the Henan Provincial Artists Association and the Zhengzhou Artists Association, a prominent provincial-level painter, and currently serves as Vice President of the Provincial Ethnic Calligraphy and Painting Academy. His works have been reported by authoritative domestic media, and he has participated in numerous national and provincial Chinese painting art exhibitions, winning multiple awards. Art Critique As a calligrapher and painter, Weiquan possesses solid artistic skills and refined aesthetic sensibilities. With strong modeling abilities, Weiquan's paintings are often elegant pastimes enjoyed after tea, or in plain terms, spontaneous sketches made for pleasure. Yet, despite minimal brushwork, his pieces naturally exude clarity and spirit. Artists all know that technical skill in brush and ink is common, but reaching a high level of mastery is rare. However, it is precisely this difficulty that drives progress—true pioneers find joy in battling towering waves. Weiquan excels in landscape painting, though occasionally creates flower-and-bird works as well. Guided by varying perceptions of nature and an evolving artistic vision, he continually achieves breakthroughs. Weiquan's landscape paintings strip away superficial splendor, embracing simple compositions pursued in stillness. Every stroke and drop of ink reflects deep contemplation of ancient masters' intentions. After prolonged dedication, he realized that even single dots and strokes can carry profound charm. Particularly notable are the inscriptions within his paintings—they are essential, neither overcrowded when abundant nor sparse or wild when few.
