Personal Profile
Chen Hui, styled Chunniu, owner of Renhe Studio, born in March 1973, graduated from the Correspondence University of Chinese Calligraphy. His works have been exhibited and awarded at the 21st and 22nd Henan Provincial Mass Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibitions. He is a member of the Henan Calligraphers Association, Executive Director of the Shunhe Hui District CPPCC Calligraphy, Painting and Photography Research Institute in Kaifeng City, and Director of the Jinming District Calligraphy and Painting Academy. Currently, he serves as Director of the Enterprise Development Center at Kaifeng Baidong Industrial Agglomeration Zone. Chen Hui is devoted to the orthodox tradition of calligraphy, initially studying Tang regular script and Wei steles, drawing inspiration primarily from Yan Zhenqing and Ouyang Xun—respecting the ancients without being bound by them. He particularly admires Han dynasty steles for clerical script, practicing inscriptions such as Zhang Qian, Shimen, and Xiyue Huashan Temple Stele, capturing their ancient, vigorous, rustic, and elegant qualities. For running and cursive scripts, he began with the Sacred Teaching Sequence, practicing Zhang Xu, Huai Su, Su Shi, and Mi Fu, adhering to daily morning and evening practice. He reveres tradition and strives to pursue ancient methods, never seeking eccentricity, but rather allowing his brush to flow naturally toward spontaneous mastery!
