Ma Zonglin, male, Han ethnicity, born in June 1952. Graduated in 1980 from the Art Class of Nanyang No. 2 Normal School. Completed in 1985 the first session of China Packaging and Decoration Design Correspondence University, jointly organized by the former Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, etc., and the Ministry of Light Industry. Completed in 1993–1995 the First Correspondence Advanced Brush Calligraphy Course of the China Calligraphers Association. In October 1999, awarded by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and other institutions the honorary title of “Cross-Strait Artist of Outstanding Virtue and Artistic Talent.”

Appointed in August 2007 as Senior Calligrapher and Painter of the Chinese Academy of Painting and Calligraphy.
      Awarded in October 2009 the title “Outstanding Contributing Artist in China’s Literary and Art Circles (1949–2009).”

Currently: Member of the Shuimo Danqing Calligraphy and Painting Academy under China Education Television; Member of Henan Branch of the China Artists Association.
Specializes in traditional Chinese landscape painting, tiger painting, and calligraphy. Proficient in all five script styles—regular, cursive, seal, clerical, and running—with emphasis on Ouyang Xun-style regular script and small seal script.Since the 1990s, his artworks have been frequently selected and awarded gold, silver, bronze, first prizes, selection prizes, and rising star awards in numerous domestic and international exhibitions and competitions, including the Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Exhibition commemorating the 2550th anniversary of Confucius’s birth; the Centenary of Chinese Cinema Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition; national painting and calligraphy contests commemorating the 105th and 110th anniversaries of Mao Zedong’s birth; the 60th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan Painting and Calligraphy Competition; the 2010 Shanghai World Expo Invitational Exhibition of Renowned Chinese Calligraphers and Painters; the 2550th Anniversary of Qu Yuan’s Birth Invitational Exhibition; the 2450th Anniversary of Tang Bohu’s Birth Invitational Exhibition; the 5th and 7th China-Japan-Korea International Calligraphy and Painting Aesthetic Exhibitions; and the “International Calligraphy and Painting Exchange Exhibition Promoting the Peaceful Reunification of the Motherland,” co-organized by China, Belgium, Canada, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan region, etc. China Cultural Daily published a special online review titled “Ma Zonglin’s Art of Painting Tigers.”
      His artworks have been collected and published by People’s Daily Overseas Edition, People’s Pictorial Calligraphy and Painting Special Issue, Ministry of Culture’s Calligraphy and Painting Website, China Calligraphy and Painting Trading Website, Modern Chinese Painting, Contemporary Fine Arts, Who’s Who in China’s Literary and Art Circles, CCTV’s “Spring Festival Calligraphy and Painting Broadcast Collection,” etc. Some works have been collected by relevant professional institutions. His calligraphy works “Qinyuanchun·Snow” and “Qinyuanchun·Changsha” by Mao Zedong were broadcast on CCTV Calligraphy and Painting Channel’s “Spring Festival Calligraphy and Painting Broadcast” on March 2–3, 2011 and March 9–10, 2012, respectively.

Creative Principle: Better to produce less, but must be excellent; create masterpieces with distinctive personal style.
