Zhao Yunlai was born on September 19, 1944, in Luoyang City, Henan Province, and holds a college diploma. He has loved calligraphy and painting since childhood, and under the influence of his elders, began studying calligraphy at the age of 8, practicing the masterpieces of Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, Yan Zhenqing, Su Shi, Mi Fu, and other renowned calligraphers, persisting in diligent practice for decades. He graduated from Xi’an Highway College in 1966 and was assigned to work in quality inspection at China’s First Tractor Manufacturing Plant in Luoyang. After retirement, he studied for five years at the Calligraphy Research Class and Peony Painting Specialized Class of Luoyang Senior Citizens University, and graduated successfully. His calligraphy and painting works have participated in numerous national exhibitions and competitions and have won multiple awards. In January 2018, he received the Merit Award in the First “Calligraphy Impression Cup” National Hard-Pen Calligraphy Competition. In May 2018, his calligraphy work won the Merit Award at the 7th Henan Province New Rural Construction Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition. In June 2018, he received the Excellence Award at the 27th Henan Province Mass Calligraphy Exhibition. In September 2018, his calligraphy work won the Excellence Award in the “Cultural Confidence, Realizing the Chinese Dream” National Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In December 2018, his calligraphy work won the Outstanding Work Award at the Henan Calligraphy Training Center’s Outstanding Student Works Exhibition. In June 2019, his calligraphy work won First Prize in the “Hanmo Fenghua” National Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Grand Exhibition, and he was conferred the title of “Contemporary Inheritor of Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting.” In September 2019, his calligraphy work won the Excellence Award in the National “Hanmo Cup” Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Competition. In December 2019, his traditional Chinese painting titled “When the Wind Comes, Flowers Dance Naturally” won First Prize in the “Mo Hai Chu Xin” National Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Grand Exhibition. In October 2020, his calligraphy work won the Gold Award in the “Ink Rhyme China” National Calligraphy and Painting Grand Exhibition. In November 2020, his traditional Chinese painting works “Viewing the Scenery” and “Quiet Reflection” were selected for the 25th Henan Province New Artists and New Works Art Exhibition. Currently holds the title of National First-Class Artist (Calligraphy). First-Class Calligrapher. First-Class Artist. Member of the China Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association. Member of the China Bai Juyi Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Institute. Art Consultant of Oriental Art World. Member of the Henan Calligraphers Association.
