Personal Profile

Chen Guohua was born in 1953 in Jiamusi City, on the north bank of the Songhua River, at the southern foot of the Lesser Xing'an Mountains in Heilongjiang Province. Influenced and educated by his uncle from an early age, he developed a deep passion for calligraphy. Even as he approaches his seventies, he has devoted himself to in-depth study and diligent practice, achieving modest but meaningful progress. He once enlisted in the military to defend his country. In his youth, he worked for many years at the grassroots level of government, contributing to water conservancy projects, urban and rural planning, and cultural development. In his spare time, he studied and contemplated the art of calligraphy, focusing particularly on copying the steles and inscriptions of renowned masters such as Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, Zhao Mengfu, Liu Gongquan, and Yan Zhenqing. After retirement, he immersed himself entirely in the study and research of calligraphy, especially fortunate to have met two distinguished masters, Gong Xiushan and Han Jian, who personally instructed and guided him with great care, greatly enriching his understanding. His imitations of Mao's calligraphy deeply capture the essence of the leader’s brushwork, perfectly embodying the bold and magnificent aesthetic beauty of Mao-style calligraphy, earning admiration and delight from viewers who find his works irresistible. In recent years, his calligraphy pieces have been exhibited multiple times and awarded prizes, and have been collected by several well-known entrepreneurs and calligraphy enthusiasts. Chen Guohua is a member of the China Mao-style Calligraphers Association, a committee member of the New Artistic Community Calligraphy and Painting Working Committee of the China Calligraphy and Painting Artists Association, a member of the Beijing Tongzhou District Senior Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, a member of the Sanhe City Calligraphers Association, and a member of the Celebrity Database, MoKeDao, and China Genuine Artworks Network. He is a National Level One Calligrapher and a National Gift Artist, currently appointed as a contracted artist by ArtNet.
