Gu Zi, real name Wei JieXiong, styled Bai Lan Ju Ren, was born in 1972 in Guigang, Guangxi, and is of Zhuang ethnicity, specializing in calligraphy and painting. He began studying calligraphy and painting at the age of six, never ceasing his practice; initially imitating the Yan style, later progressing to the Ouyang style, followed by the styles of Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, Zhi Yong, Chu Suiliang, Wang Duo, and Liu Gongquan. He later derived his brush techniques from Wei stele inscriptions, eventually forming his own distinctive style. In painting, he initially studied oil painting, later focusing exclusively on traditional Chinese painting, under the tutelage of Professors Shang Zuoshu, Li Zhengguo, and Zheng Wanlin from the Guangxi Arts Institute. Additionally, he has also explored seal carving, poetry, and music.
