According to the official WeChat account "Ye Maozhong Planning," on December 8, 2021, Ye Maozhong made his debut as an artist at the special exhibition "Ye Maozhong Ink World: A Gratitude Painting Exhibition." The auction of 16 works ultimately raised 2,386,250 RMB, with the highest-priced piece, "Heng Ling Cang Song You Jia," selling for 448,500 RMB; all proceeds from the auction were donated to charitable projects.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Ye Maozhong's family, "following the doctor's advice," prevented him from continuing to work. During this period, Ye Maozhong frequently copied Buddhist scriptures and sketched from life.
"He (Ye Maozhong) was a very contradictory person who needed inner peace," explained Wang Yugang. Over the past two years, Ye Maozhong "expressed his love for landscape painting and calligraphy, seeking inner tranquility."
Wang Yugang recalled that over the past two years, Ye Maozhong had said he no longer intended to work in advertising and would dedicate the rest of his life to calligraphy and painting.
Wang Yugang recalled that in 2020, while organizing the "Ye Maozhong Art Exhibition," Ye Maozhong frequently interacted with friends and disciples on WeChat to promote the exhibition. At the time, doctors advised Ye Maozhong's family not to let him overuse his phone, "(family members) asked him to delete everyone on WeChat."
But Ye Maozhong still couldn't let go of advertising.
"How can you stop?" asked Wang Yugang.
For every case (project), "he (Ye Maozhong) had to do it himself," Wang Yugang said, from receiving clients, managing the market, sharing creative ideas, to finalizing the campaign planning—Ye Maozhong participated in every step.
Wang Yugang recalled, "(Ye Maozhong) once said, 'As long as Ye Maozhong's company is still open, my flag must remain planted on this land, and this bright lamp will continue to illuminate this industry.'"
