As can be seen from the contract agreement dated September 1, Lin and Tao each contributed $350 to Universe Wind, with profits, losses, and editorial responsibilities equally shared between the two parties, and Tao serving as general manager.

Lin Yutang and Hoelzer met in the 1950s. He was a professor of constitutional and administrative law at Hoelzer's Brooklyn Law School. In 1953, Lin Yutang discovered that Pearl S. Buck and her husband John Day were charging a royalty rate as high as 50% and refused to provide any assistance; with Hoelzer's help, he reclaimed the copyright to his works. This is also reflected in Lin Yutang's autobiography, "An Autobiography of Eighty."

The following passage testifies to the deep friendship between Lin and Hoelzer. In addition to their signatures, it contains various humorous remarks suited to everyday life. At the time, Lin was living in the United States, so both of them made donations to New York and Philadelphia.

The diary also records Lin's patriotic donations in support of the war of resistance, serving as an important testament to his youthful vigor and patriotic spirit. He deeply loved his hometown and country; the dedication preceding "Clouds over Beijing" reveals his childlike innocence: he wrote down all his tears and offered them to the Japanese invaders. It is not the heroes who bleed, but China's free citizens.
