In recent years, calligraphy creation has flourished, but some chaos has also emerged in the calligraphy community. For example, certain so-called "calligraphers," under the banner of "innovation," misunderstand and distort traditional calligraphy, blurring the distinctions between elegance and vulgarity, beauty and ugliness; even worse, calligraphy hype once became widespread, greatly increasing fame and profit, extending a sense of restlessness. There are many reasons for this confusion, one of which is the absence of calligraphy criticism.
At that time, professional calligraphy critics were rare as hen's teeth, and scholarly critical articles with influence were limited. Calligraphy criticism has fallen into difficulty, though not obviously so. This compels us to reflect deeply: How should we view calligraphy criticism? What kind of calligraphy criticism do we need?
