President of Tama Art University and Director of the Yayoi Kusama Museum. Born in Kyoto in 1947, he graduated from the Faculty of Literature at Waseda University. He formerly served as National Director of World Arts and President of Kyoto City University of Arts. He was curator of the Japanese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1990 and 1993, and is currently a member of the selection committee for the Japanese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
He has served as curator, art critic, art director, and curator in many prominent art institutions. Co-founder of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France, where he held a management position until 2006. From 2008 to 2012, he served as curator of the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, helping to establish it as one of Asia's premier contemporary art centers. Jerome Sans has also co-curated numerous international art exhibitions, including the 2000 Taipei Biennial, the 2005 Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art in France, the 2006 Nuit Blanche festival in Paris, France, and the 2010 Milan Triennale. From 2015 to 2017, he served as one of the art directors of the "Grand Paris Express" cultural project.
